Department Summary
The Dean of Students Office fosters the development of leadership, civility, accountability, and responsibility in the University of North Texas student; builds community through service and involvement; and serves as an advocate for all students. This office is dedicated to supporting the UNT student who may need assistance in resolving complex personal and academic matters. We strive to help all students achieve their academic and personal goals and enhance the UNT student experience.

Position Overview
The position reports to the Assist Director for Withdrawal Intervention in the Division of Student Affairs. This position coordinates the univerisity’s process for addressing the needs of students who have challenges with health, personal, and social issues through providing a myriad of interventions, referrals and follow-up services. Primary responsibilites are to assist with the student intiated withdrawal process in the DOS, reconnect with students who have been referred to the CARE Team, assist with Seeking Options and Solutions (SOS) Program and student complaints

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects.
  • Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops.
  • Experience in networking across departments and programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Knowledge and skills to professionally and effectively counsel students through the decision-making process.
  • Knowledge of university withdrawal policies and campus resources.

Job Duties

o
Meet with students to remove barriers and support retention efforts. Work with faculty and staff regarding individual students and the issues that are affecting academic progress.

o
Assist in the daily tasks of the Withdrawal Intervention Services team including communications, forms and withdrawal processes.

o
Selection and daily supervision of graduate assistants. Train and manage the graduate assistants and student workers on withdrawal policy and procedures.

o
Communicate appropriately with staff regarding issues, policies, procedures and incidents pertaining to the university mandatory withdrawal process, SOS or other concerns.

o
Assist with developing systems for reporting and maintenance of student cases. Provide feedback on procedures, and policies pertaining to the withdrawal process.

o
Assist in data collection, assessments and tracking of the withdrawal intervention program with daily, weekly, semester and annual reports.

o
Collaborate with campus partners and Intervention Services staff to triage student’s concerns and issues based on severity. Respond to student complaints.

o
Participate in programming, events and outreach as directed through the Dean of Students Office. This includes serving on committees as assigned.

o
Stays abreast of University policies and federal and state laws pertaining to mental health, responding to student crisis, FERPA, financial aid, enrollment, etc.

o
Attends all appropriate trainings including annual CSA training.
