Applications are currently being accepted for Student Services Assistant in the Financial Aid department, located at San Diego Mesa College. Hours are: Mon - Thurs 8:00am - 6:00pm, Friday 9:00am - 1:00pm. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.
Under the direction of the Financial Aid Officer or designee, provide technical assistance to students regarding FAFSA, financial aid questions, concerns, interpret college and District policies and procedures and assist students in the successful completion and adherence to said policies and procedures. This position directly supports CalGrant students and works collaboratively with various student services departments providing resources and support for academic success and completion.
Major Responsibilities:
- Use technology in the delivery of student services.
- Prepare and transmit correspondence for students.
- Assist students with the FAFSA and Dream Act aid application process.
- Maintain confidential files and records.
- Establish and maintain successful working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
- Refer former students to other departments of community services.
- Maintain data exchange with CSAC using WebGrants.
- Interpret and apply academic and financial aid policies and procedures within a higher education setting.
- Process aid applications and forms; review records for changes in status, request additional information as needed
- Compile data and prepare reports.
- Explain to special populations including, foster youth, Dreamer's and formerly incarcerated students how to navigate through the pre-enrollment process including, but not limited to, online orientation completion, pre-assessment workshops, and assessment.
Please note that an employee may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.

The successful applicant will have possession of a high school diploma orequivalent and at least two years of experience in a customer or student service settingworking directly with customers or students and the ability to:

- Applicable sections of State Education Codes and other laws.
- Admissions, enrollment, and testing requirements.
- District organization, operations, policies and objectives.
- Oral and written communications skills.
- Federal and State Financial Aid programs, rules and regulations.
Skills and Abilities to:
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Interpret and explain rules, regulations, procedures, policies and catalogs regarding student admission, transcript evaluation, prerequisite requirements and special regulations.
- Assist program director with planning and improvement of procedure.
- Train and provide work direction to others.
- Meet schedules and timelines.
- Compile data and prepare reports.
- Effectively use technology within a college setting.
- Prepare, process, and transmit a variety of student information.
- Maintain confidential files and records.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty.

Licenses:
Pay Information:
Range 16 ($3,934.20- $5,424.79) per month based on the current Classified salary schedule. New employees will begin on Step D ($3,934.20). Step D is the maximum step placement for a new hire, and this is non-negotiable at this time. Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA. This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime). Excellent Benefits are provided to all Contract employees with assignments greater than, or equal to, 50% (0.50 FTE) and all eligible dependents. A temporary probationary period will apply to the employee entering this assignment.
