Job Description

As an Engagement Specialist, you will focus on nurturing their Constructive Leadership skills, enabling them to grow personally and inspire their peers to join the cause. You will have the incredible opportunity to bring people together, fostering solidarity and driving positive social change. Through our Immersion and Trek programs, students and donors unite to learn from one another, develop Constructive Leadership skills, and serve their local communities side by side. Your main motivation will be achieving student engagement goals, measured by Key Performance Indicators that ensure the quality and reach of our programs. Your enthusiasm for engaging youth in service will be the driving force behind your work.
What You'll Do
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, guidance counselors, and students to implement our service-learning curriculum, IPARD, using universal methodologies and resources.
Empower students as leaders by involving them in every step of IPARD, utilizing a mix of digital and in-person strategies to extend your reach.
Partner with schools to develop strategies for recruiting chronically absent students, ensuring their inclusion and participation.
Guide students in investigating community issues, understanding their root causes, and taking action to address them or alleviate immediate human suffering.
Facilitate reflection sessions to help students comprehend the impact of their service on themselves and the communities they serve.
Encourage students to demonstrate what they have learned and advocate for system change.
Foster student engagement through virtual service, socially/physically distant service, and direct service, adhering to CDC and local guidelines.
Core Job Functions
Student Engagement in Service Learning:
Facilitate buildOn IPARD Service-Learning for chronically absent students in partnership with a local high school.
Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administration to implement buildOn's credit recovery and in-school suspension programs through service-learning activities.
Partner with the guidance department to recruit chronically absent students.
Engage students in virtual, socially distant, and direct service activities, utilizing a mix of in-person interactions and digital tools.
Achievement Of KPI Focuses & Data-Driven Decisions
Enter engagement data in the Salesforce platform in a timely manner and utilize analytics to expand reach and engage more students in service.
Meet student recruitment goals for participation in Immersions and other programs.
Constructive Leadership
Facilitate the school-based Leadership Committee, fostering student-led events and service-learning projects.
Incorporate opportunities for young people to lead in each part of IPARD.
Assist in running the Summer Leadership Institute in collaboration with the regional team.
Relationship Building
Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with school advisors, administrators, faculty, support staff, parents, and local community partners.
Work with schools to implement buildOn's credit recovery and in-school suspension program.
Outreach to parents/guardians to gain support for engaging students in service learning.
Connect students to external services through partnerships with other organizations.
One BuildOn
Collaborate with other departments, such as Development, Marketing, Global, Finance, and HR, to meet organizational goals and elevate student voice.
Work with Marketing to highlight student stories and the transformative impact of service learning.
Support the planning and execution of regional events.

Ability to work cooperatively and responsibly as part of a team.
Initiative to co-develop and implement new service-learning initiatives with schools.
Experience as a teacher/facilitator or working closely with educators on service-learning projects.
Proficiency in using various digital tools, including social media platforms, virtual meeting platforms, and learning platforms.
Willingness to learn new technologies for program implementation.
Knowledge of systemic issues inhibiting community growth and a desire to develop youth as drivers of positive social change.
Experience and commitment to data-driven or evidence-based practices in working with chronically absent students.
Goal-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Familiarity with regional school districts and the educational/nonprofit landscape.
Relevant educational background (Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience).
