The Messenger is a new digital media company, launching May 2023, whose mission it is to deliver accurate, balanced, non-partisan reporting across every subject, from news, politics and business to sports and entertainment.
We are looking for ambitious and driven Staff editors/Writers to join our teams covering Breaking/Trending News, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, NFL, College Football, NBA, WNBA, NHL, MLB, and more. The Staff Editor/Writer will join a team of editors and writers and ensure the quality and timeliness of our coverage while also contributing engaging and insightful content. The Staff Editor/Writer will work closely with other editors and departments to ensure that our coverage aligns with the overall editorial direction of the publication.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of sports and/or news coverage. Develop innovative ways to tell stories
- Work closely with audience and social teams to follow trends and identify coverage opportunities and needs.
- Write, assign, and edit stories for digital and other platforms
- Collaborate with other editors to ensure consistency in style and voice. Work with designers and multimedia producers to enhance news content.
- Work with the sports leadership team to plan and execute a content strategy for coverage of assigned sport(s), including breaking and trending news coverage
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of professional editing or related experience, preferably in sports journalism. Knowledge of AP style, photo editing, and content management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Growing leadership skills and the ability to manage a team
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Knowledge of sports at all levels and the ability to assign, develop and create insightful analysis and commentary. Ability to edit content across all sports as needed. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage a team
**Salary Range: $75,000-100,000**
