The Staff Attorney will work with the Program Director to develop and implement the Creighton Juvenile Justice Legal Clinic’s class curriculum, assisting in the teaching of and leading student clinicians in experiential learning opportunities in the fields of juvenile defense, education rights law, and related policy. This individual will be responsible for a portion of the Clinic’s cases, providing zealous representation in the fields of juvenile defense and education rights law, and acting as the primary supervising attorney for student clinicians engaged in casework on those matters. Additionally, the Staff Attorney will collaborate closely with the Program Director in administering the Clinic’s program and pursuing avenues for expansion.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must have up to date knowledge of federal, Nebraska, and Douglas County law, policy and procedure related to juvenile justice and education rights.
- Hold a J.D. degree and be a licensed attorney in good standing in Nebraska or have the ability to waive in by March 1, 2021, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in juvenile defense and/or education rights law and policy.
- Experience teaching is preferred
- Candidates must be committed to dismantling systemic racism in juvenile justice, providing and promoting zealous advocacy for youth clients, and ending the school to prison pipeline.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Licensed to practice law in Nebraska.
