MPS is a complex directorate with five divisions encompassing the fields of astronomical sciences, chemistry, materials research, mathematical sciences, and physics, plus the Office of Multidisciplinary Activities. The five disciplinary areas represent the core intellectual foundation of science and engineering and, as a consequence, have connections to almost every other activity at NSF. The Directorate has responsibilities that range from its critical investment in the support of creative individuals and their students to the management of complex facilities and instrumentation that push the frontiers of science and engineering.
The Detailee Staff Associate To MPS/OAD Will

  • Other duties as assigned, including leading MPS engagement in one or more specific focus areas of interest to the detailee.
  • Act as the OAD liaison to the MPS Broadening Participation Working Group.
  • Work closely with the Head of OMA, serving as lead for the OMA program. The Staff Associate will review requests for co-funding from inside and outside MPS and make funding recommendations to the Head of OMA. The Staff Associate will collaborate closely with the Head of OMA to interview co-funding requestors, to balance the OMA investment portfolio, etc.
  • Organize and coordinate the MPS Advisory Committee and its meetings, as well as coordinate the work of the AC's subcommittees, including Committees of Visitors for all MPS Divisions, as needed.
  • Support OAD by handling and reviewing, as necessary, solicitations, Dear Colleague Letters, and interagency memoranda of understanding sent to OAD for content and relevant to stated Directorate and Foundation-wide goals. Handle MPS reconsideration requests.
The detailee will be a member of the OAD staff and will attend regularly scheduled meetings including weekly stand-ups, weekly OAD staff and scientific staff meetings, weekly MPS Senior Staff meetings, and biannual OAD and MPS Senior Staff retreats.
