SPS Commerce is hiring a Senior Database Engineer to join our Database Engineering team. The Database Engineering team at SPS Commerce enables the entire organization to build quality, scalable database solutions. We believe in DevOps principles and are actively pushing the design and support of databases into a DevOps organization every day.

As a Senior Oracle Database Engineer, you will build and support databases that power SPS’ world-class products. You will also own the deployment pipelines for database systems and database changes. If you have experience with Oracle Database administration, data structures and infrastructure-as-code then this is the position for you.

Day to Day

As a Database Engineer, you will build and support databases that power SPS’ world-class products. You will also own the deployment pipelines for database systems and database changes. The World's Retail Network runs on our databases.

  • Responsible for the deployment, configuration, monitoring, and ongoing operations of relational and non-relational database services

  • Engage with engineering peers across the organization to document, develop, scale and improve database systems and services

  • Demonstrate proficient troubleshooting skills to provide resolution to incidents and problem management projects

  • Participate in a production support on-call rotation, completing incident and problem management tasks as assigned.
  • Administer user and application access to database services
  • Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures for database services
  • Escalate support tasks to other teams or technology management when needed
  • Understand and follow procedures identified by SOX and other security standards
  • Change, enhance, and troubleshoot database automation frameworks

Required Skills

  • Experience with Ansible, Chef, or any other configuration and automation management framework
  • Experience with Python or other programming language outside of shell scripting
  • Experience and practical knowledge of agile development process is a plus
  • Ability to learn new technologies, new skills, and new systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with persons at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with database-related Linux administration and running databases on Linux
  • Adherence to the highest quality standards
  • Experience configuring and supporting Oracle RMAN and Oracle Data Guard
  • Professional Certification in any database platform preferred.
  • Experience supporting database applications in a highly available, highly transactional environment
  • Experience working with Oracle Partitioning is a plus
  • Experience with Terraform is a plus
  • Proficient in writing and maintaining shell and python scripts and/or programs to aid in administrative tasks.
  • 5 or more years of professional experience with 3 years Oracle-related experience
  • Experience with compliance frameworks and audit processes is a plus
  • Experience supporting Oracle in a production environment is required
  • Experience with software version control like git or SVN with github experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT/Computer Systems or comparable work experience
  • Experience with relational data modeling and design in collaboration with Software Engineers
  • Experience supporting PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MySQL is a plus
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or other cloud computing services
  • Ability to understand application architecture and its impact on database design
