Senior Engineer, VDI

Title


Senior Engineer I VDI, Digital Workspace Engineering (Managed Services)


Description


The role of the Senior Engineer I VDI, Digital Workspace, is to plan installations, upgrades, and support connectivity of VDI systems to ensure the stable operation of client applications and desktops on various VDI architectures. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing server hardware and software.


Responsibilities


Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and deploy methodologies for testing server and application performance and providing performance statistics and reports.
  • Research and recommend new technology and best practices for internal and client deployments.
  • Establish best practices for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting server and application-based systems
  • Implement short- and long-term strategic plans to make certain capacity meets existing and future VDI requirements.
  • Implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for server and application resource administration and appropriate use.
  • Collaborate with iVision leadership on Managed Services service level agreements and processes.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Develop, test, and deploy release packages to production including collaboration with operations and service Desk resources ensuring that production releases are operational, documented, and supportable.
  • Conduct, research and make recommendations on server and application products, in support of client’s VDI Infrastructures.
  • Assess, approve, and administer all equipment, hardware, and software upgrades following iVision Managed Services Change Management process for server and applications.
  • Work with vendors and contractors to assist in application support services.

Operational Management

  • Analyze and resolve escalations for all client issues.
  • Provide strong partnering and communication in working with client, end users, and various technology support groups.
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the client and organization’s executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent activities.
  • Provide and ensure the highest levels of system and infrastructure availability.
  • Responsible for environment health, configuration, patching, and image management
  • Lead, mentor and develop mid-level engineers.

Position Requirements


Formal Education & Certification

  • Citrix Certified Professional – Virtualization (CCP-V)
  • The following certifications are highly desired:
    • Citrix Certified Professional – Virtualization (CCP-V)
    • Citrix Certified Expert – Virtualization (CCE-V)
    • Azure AZ-140 – Configure and operating Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop
    • VMware Horizon
  • Four-year university degree or college diploma in the field of computer science and/or 6 years equivalent work experience.
  • Azure AZ-140 – Configure and operating Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop
  • Citrix Certified Expert – Virtualization (CCE-V)
  • VMware Horizon

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience in a Managed Services environment is a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of current protocols and standards, including TCP/IP
  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory and GPO management
  • NetScaler experience is a plus
  • 6 years experience in a technical role directly working in an enterprise datacenter environment supporting enterprise VDI environments.
  • Working knowledge of App Volumes and App layering
  • Strong technical knowledge of VMware ESXi and vCenter
  • Strong technical knowledge of Citrix 1912, Horizon View 8, Azure VDI
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Strong Citrix PVS Knowledge
  • Understanding of orchestration and automation methodologies pertaining to the specific needs of a managed services provider
  • Experience in Public Cloud architectures (Azure/AWS) are a plus.
  • Strong technical knowledge of DEM, UPM and FSLOGIX
