Job Description

SLPA operating under the supervision of a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) at an outpatient clinic and small private school partners.

Description

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and neurodiversity-positive Speech Language Pathology Assistant to join our team. As a Speech Language Pathology Assistant, you will work under the supervision and guidance of licensed Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) to provide comprehensive speech and language therapy services to individuals of all ages. Your role will involve assisting with evaluations, implementing therapy plans, and monitoring progress to help individuals improve their communication and swallowing skills. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the well-being of clients while working closely with a team of professionals in a supportive environment.
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with licensed Speech-Language Pathologists to implement therapy plans and interventions for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Assist with the selection and preparation of therapeutic materials and equipment.
  • Stay updated on the latest research, techniques, and advancements in the field of speech-language pathology.
  • Aid in documenting and maintaining accurate records of clients' progress, observations, and therapy sessions.
  • Assist in conducting evaluations, screenings, and assessments to determine the extent and nature of speech and language difficulties.
  • Carry out therapy sessions as directed by the supervising SLP, using appropriate techniques and materials to address individualized goals.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients and their families regarding home practice and carry-over of therapy goals.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of individualized treatment plans.
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards, maintaining confidentiality and respecting the rights and dignity of clients.
  • Monitor and report any changes in clients' progress or concerns to the supervising SLP.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of speech and language disorders, assessment tools, and therapy techniques.
  • Proficient computer skills for documentation and report writing.
  • Empathy and patience when working with individuals with communication difficulties.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Associate's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with clients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Current certification as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant or eligibility for certification in the relevant state.
  • Ability to follow directions, maintain accurate records, and work effectively in a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional certifications or specialized training in specific areas of speech and language pathology.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and augmentative communication devices.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and age groups.
