Job Description

School Summary

California Connections Academy is a network of tuition-free public online schools for students in grades K–12. The network of schools is operated by the nonprofit California Online Public Schools and currently includes six schools serving students in 32 counties in California. California Connections Academy schools are accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Position Summary

Working from their home, the Full-Time Speech Language Pathologist will provide virtual speech therapy to K-12 students who are enrolled in Connections Academy virtual public schools. The SLP will connect with students using webcams and web conferencing software, while using the company's online Education Management System to manage his/her caseload.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain all required licenses and clearances in the state of California as assigned;
  • Plan and implement individual and group therapy in a virtual environment;
  • Be an expert on assigned school and state specific policies and procedures for implementing services;
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date data in the education management system and special education database, including updating secondary IEP systems as directed;
  • Timely and thorough documentation of therapeutic interventions and progress reports;
  • Provide high quality speech language services to assigned students while supporting program implementation;
  • Conduct general education screenings and face-to-face evaluation of all students’ communication needs using documented best practices and state and federal eligibility guidelines. May require in-person assessment duties, as assigned.
  • Complete all required professional development, training, and courses required by the school and to maintain credentials and meet state and federal compliance standards;
  • Meet bi weekly with your supervisor;
  • Consult with teachers and coordinate the implementation of specially designed instruction as defined in the IEP regarding students with speech/language needs and potential learning issues;
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
  • Special Education case management for select students whose only special education need is speech therapy; this will include scheduling, organizing and conducting IEP related meetings in a virtual environment, and organization and proper implementation of all paperwork, documentation and procedures for the IEP process in compliance with state and federal laws;
  • Maintain a high level of communication with the leadership team and school staff;
  • Adhere to all laws and policies regarding data protection and security;
  • Maintain positive working relationships with school staff and families
  • Review and analyze a variety of reports to maintain compliance;
  • Comply with school procedures for monitoring student progress in the online, independent charter school setting;
  • Communicate regularly with parents/learning coaches of students with speech/language needs as well as school special education staff to insure that their IEP goals are being met, and that their needs are addressed in a timely and appropriate fashion;

Requirements

  • Strong technology skills
  • Valid state and/or Department of Education Licensure in Speech Pathology as required; State licensure in California is required.
  • High degree of flexibility and ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • MA or MS in Speech Language Pathology and ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence

This position ranges from $70,000 - $94,142.22 based on relevant education and experience.
