Job Description
JOB GOAL:

To identify, diagnose and remediate communication disorders which impact a student’s educational progress.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus benefit package. Range 802 - Schedule 122. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience. FLSA: EXEMPT.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters degree from college or university.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of related experience in the field.
  • Must meet Arkansas certification requirements and Licensure.
  • Must have working knowledge of Federal Laws (Reauthorization of IDEA 2004) and understanding of due process procedures.
  • Must possess knowledge of current educational theory and practice; or cultural, socioeconomic, ethnic and gender differences; and the principals of child growth and development, particularly as they relate to normal speech and language acquisition.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills.
  • Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.
  • Attends and assists in referral, assessment, programming, and placement conferences as appropriate.
  • Coordinates and conducts appropriate assessments of auditory and communicative abilities functioning.
  • Collects and synthesizes assessment information needed to determine student eligibility and to develop the Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Interprets assessment information at the evaluation/programming conference.
  • Provides a written report of assessment information with recommendations to evaluation/programming committee.
  • Implements the (IEP) regarding speech therapy services and interprets the student’s plan to school personnel and parents.
  • Monitors and evaluates the student’s progress and conducts conferences with school personnel and parents when additional changes or discontinuance of special services is indicated, to include minimally and annual program review.
  • Cooperates in the District in-service program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
