Software Engineer (Data), Square Banking

The Square Banking team is building new financial products for Square sellers. We offer business checking accounts, savings accounts, and loans to help our sellers manage their business cash flow.

As an Engineer focused on Data for Square Banking, you will help us build our own Square Banking Data Mesh using real-time Big Data technologies. We want to build a scalable system that ingests financial data from multiple sources, cleans, transforms, and enriches that data, making it available to several (Engineers, ML, and Data Scientists). You will work directly with product teams to understand their use case and build the tooling they need to access the right data in real-time.

You will:

• Implement automated methods to build and update data infrastructure for Banking products
• Build relationships with our Data and ML teams to understand their work and needs
• Partner with multiple product and platform engineering teams to help build the data infrastructure for banking use cases and have an impact on growing the business
• Work with our Principal Data Engineer, who will mentor you
• Learn about Big Data architecture and use data technologies On-prem, AWS, DataBricks, Confluent Kafka, GCP, and SaaS and allow stakeholders to solve their data challenges

Qualifications

You Have:

• Learning mindset and passion for trying new things
• 2+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience delivering backend production-ready code as part of an engineering team
• A bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, operations research, applied math, stats, physics, or a related technical field
• Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Go, Ruby, Java, Python)
• Excellent software development skills

Nice to have:

• (Bonus) Any experience working with BigData stack: MySQL, Kafka, Databricks, Snowflake, Airflow, Spark, AWS, etc

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $152,100 - USD $185,900

Zone B: USD $144,500 - USD $176,700

Zone C: USD $136,900 - USD $167,300

Zone D: USD $129,300 - USD $158,100
