The Role

We are looking for a Senior/Staff Application Backend Engineer for our Experience Manager Engineering team. As a member of this team, you'll play a technical leadership role as we continue to innovate on our Experience Manager platform -- enabling some of the world's biggest brands to offer in-person and online experiences (classes, factory tours, events, etc). You will be responsible for guiding architectural decisions, and building scalable and highly performant features end to end while also mentoring other engineers to do their best work.

This role is based out of our San Francisco office in a hybrid capacity.

What We're Looking For:

• Ability to provide guidance on the technical direction of strategic initiatives
• Experienced in architectural patterns of large, high-scale web application backends (e.g., well-designed APIs, extensible data models, resiliency, high volume data pipelines, efficient algorithms)
• Ability to champion coding best practices, observability, quality, and performance
• An inclination towards selflessness, collaboration, communication, inclusion, and visibility
• 6+ years of experience designing, building, and deploying web applications at scale
• Proficiency in writing automated test coverage
• Passion to stay current with the latest technology trends and bring the best to the team
• Significant experience with relational database systems (e.g PostgreSQL), NoSQL systems (e.g. DynamoDB, Redis)
• A high degree of competence with Ruby on Rails – or a comparable backend (e.g. python/Django)
• Understanding how to architect and build modern backends with user experience forethought

• Comfortable with a large product surface area. AnyRoad’s web app and associated services cover a lot of ground
• Capable of building foundational pieces of application infrastructure that not only support the features we are building now but also those we will build tomorrow
• A builder who feels that robust APIs, monitoring, resiliency, scalability, and security are foundational pieces to every project
• Passionate about helping other engineers and being part of a team that is aiming to improve and grow collectively
• Passionate about understanding the latest trends, technologies, or patterns and thinking about how you and your team can benefit from them

Projects You Might Work On:

• External Integrations — Our suite of plugins that allow partners to embed checkout flows directly into their own websites. You'll be helping us work on rethinking and rebuilding this in a much more modern way, all driven by API’s and embeddable cross-origin React components
• AnyRoad Experience Manager — Allows some of the worlds largest brands to manage all the logistics related to offering experiences (scheduling, registration, payment processing). You may work on advanced pricing capabilities, enhanced guest profile, venue capacity, user authentication and profiles, etc
• Scaling — AnyRoad has a diverse set of performance and scaling challenges including deriving insights from large data sets, supporting complex scheduling rules that can be applied infinitely in the future, addressing bottlenecks in legacy code, and designing new system architectures to support our rapid usage growth
