Job Description
AIL-SV is a muti-disciplinary organization that recognizes the need to bring together a diverse R&D team to challenge the current state of automotive technology. From developing behavior-aware autonomous driving systems, to personalizing BEV energy management, to designing new experiences for future vehicle concepts, AIL-SV staff are pushing boundaries in the pursuit of improving mobility for everyone. We’re currently looking for a Software Engineer, AI Research & Applications Intern to join our team. The position will be located at our Innovation Lab in Silicon Valley, CA.
As a software engineer/developer, you will:
  • Uncover opportunities for improving the performance through parameter optimization, re-configuration, re-design, and introduction of new software modules.
  • Continuously expand your technical toolset and knowledge and of the state of the art by investigating third-party tools and open-source libraries, reading papers, forming connections with academic and industry research networks, and attending conferences when relevant.
  • Contribute to Nissan’s intelligent vehicle software stack (including code that lives in the cloud, code that interfaces with vehicle sensors and actuators, and code that drives human-machine interaction).
  • Communicate your work effectively through documentation, presentations to your peers, and reports to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with a team of world-leading experts in the fields of AI, robotics, and social science to realize advanced technology concepts.
  • Build brand new protypes and proofs-of-concept, working across all stages of ideation, target setting, architecture design, agile development, integration, and validation.
  • Implement principled methods to real vehicles, ultimately testing your code on the road.
Requirements For You To Succeed In This Role
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Currently be pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline program.
  • Comfortability in Linux.
  • High level of proficiency in more than one programming language, with examples of your code ready to share.
  • Knowledge of the core concepts of APIs and SDKs, at the backend and front end (full stack).
  • Driver’s license, for testing your solutions.
Ways to stand out from the crowd
  • Competence in C++ and/or JULIA.
  • Experience with ROS and/or with robots, vehicles, or other physical systems.
  • Experience with Docker, microservices and cloud engineering.
  • Active contributions to the open-source community.
  • Experience with Agile development practice
  • Experience with Android development.

Salary Range Estimate: $30-$44/hr. This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the salary range for the job’s grade level. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include, among other things, your specific skills, your work location, how many years of experience you have, and comparison to other employees already in this role.
