Job Description

The Social Clinical Research Assistant will work under the supervision of a Principal Investigator to successfully implement research projects that seek to generate new knowledge to improve human health and wellbeing. The primary project is a National Institutes of Health research project establishing and coordinating a sentinel surveillance site in coordination with a network of other sentinel surveillance sites in other states as part of a national rapid tobacco surveillance center.
Collect and Prepare Data – This position is responsible for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of certain phases of the assigned project(s). Example activities include taking the lead on supervising a team of undergraduate data collectors who are conducting retail tobacco product audits and leading systematic searches of tobacco retailers. Activities to collect and prepare data include leading the development of data collection dossiers, assigning stores for data collection, and problem solving data collection errors. The social/clinical research assistant will be responsible for ensuring that the studies are conducted in accordance with study protocols and will oversees and lead collection methods. Duties include creating and revising study materials, forms, manuals, and brochures as requested as well as coordinating recruitment, data collection, and follow-up activities.
Planning and Organizing Work — Fully responsible for scheduling and prioritizing data collection in two projects. Orders and maintains adequate supplies for the project. Coordinates the hiring of study personnel and provides training, direction, guidance, and evaluation of work activities. Responsible for the administration and coordination of various aspects of research studies.
Implement quality assurance and control efforts – This position develops reporting procedures and provides progress reports about study activities and develops and documents quality control monitoring procedures and standards.
Train staff, students, and others: Leads trainings of student data collectors and others. Examples include developing and implementing role-plays of tobacco product audits and developing and implementing trainings of community partners.
Communication—Collects and disseminates updates and news related to research projects and activities in HHP. Communicates study progress to partners, community contacts, and other research teams. Examples include making presentations on research data collection efforts at scientific conferences.

Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
