Assist the certified and/or licensed practitioner in providing patient care services specific to their discipline by fitting selected orthotic and/or prosthetic devices under indirect supervision*and performing other assigned tasks. The Clinical Assistant will work under the general direction of the ACM/CM or his/her designee.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)


  • Indirect Supervision This level of supervision does not require the supervising credentialed individual to be on site however they must be available for consultation throughout the patient care process. The supervisor must review the results of care and the documentation of the services rendered by the supervised individual and is responsible for countersigning within 15 days all entries in the patient’s clinical record.
  • Provide patient follow-up for selected orthotic and prosthetic patients.
  • Evaluate selected orthotic and prosthetic needs of patients, measure, cast, fit, and adjust devices.
  • Perform shipping, receiving, and monitoring of inventory and other clerical tasks.
  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation of patient care provided.
  • Contact vendors to order prosthetic and orthotic materials
  • Assist practitioners with patient care.
  • Provide alterations to the fitting of orthotic and prosthetic devices.
  • Prepare a room and patient for treatment, make and modify molds, perform technical fabrication, and complete administrative tasks.
  • Perform selected patient care procedures.


Additional Responsibilities


  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work environment.
  • Assistants who have obtained professional certification (Orthotic Fitter/Prosthetic Assistant) and received supplemental internal training may be asked to support the provision of hospital based post-operative care.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • (ABC/BOC) certification required.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations; compliance with Medicare and other governmental regulations; compliance with blood borne and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.


Knowledge and Skill


  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Hand skills necessary to use laboratory tools safely and effectively.
  • Knowledge of biomechanical principles.
  • Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills for reporting information to patient and staff.
  • Willingess to consult certified clinician during patient care, as needed
  • Effective organizational skills and ability to prioritize and plan for the purpose of meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide administrative support to patients, fellow employees and referral sources through the coordination and administration of the front office activities. The ideal candidate will have a background in an administrative role with strong computer proficiency, and customer service. Typical responsibilities include scheduling appointments, validating insurance and payment authorization, inputting claims, processing payments, performing account collections, conducting billing research and responding to telephone inquiries.


  • Managing incoming phone calls
  • Obtaining insurance authorization
  • Responsible for patient appointment scheduling
  • Daily document research on an electronic health/medical record system
  • Providing financial counseling for patients and posting over the counter (OTC) payments
  • Scanning and filing patient documents and ensuring complete and accurate information
  • Creation of new patient charts and maintenance of patient records


Minimum Qualification


  • Requires less than 1 year of customer service, administration or related experience.
  • A valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • High school diploma or GED required.


Preferred Qualifications and Experiences


  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and other medical insurance regulations and terminology for private payer, state and federal plans including coding, billing and reimbursement protocols.
  • Associate's degree.
  • Basic administrative math accounting skills.
  • At least 2 years of computer and office equipment experience including MS Office products (Word, Excel), e-mail and automated billing systems, facsimile machines, calculator, postage machine, copiers, etc.
  • Ability to type 40 correct words per minute.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience with EMR/electronic health/medical record systems (preferably NextGen and/or OnBase).
