We’re building out our QA team at Squanch Games and need someone who is ready to be part of a team that is laying down the cornerstone. That’s where you come in! We’re looking for eagle-eyed QA folks who have experience with cross-disciplinary, push-the-envelope, teams. You’re not just spending time in the build every day, but helping to define best bug-writing practices, working with internal & external QA, triaging bugs on the reg & being the conduit between the performance stability of the builds and the brave devs whose role is build optimization.
At Squanch Games, we make stuff that people love; games that we want to play ourselves. We make experiences that we would like to be totally immersed in and enjoy for hours at a time, as well as shorter, crazier experiences that would be great to play with a group of friends, or possibly with your grandmother who only comes over because she is afraid you'll starve to death if left to your own devices.
If you share these values, come join us!
We're looking for someone that is:
Experienced: You have experience in game development on one or many platforms (Console, Mobile, PC, etc.), specifically as a QA Specialist or Senior QA Specialist. You have experience with short & long, big & small project cycles and are comfortable with the tools, language & process of “finaling” games. You understand multiple genres of games including narrative-focused action / adventure games.
Feature owner: You are capable of owning multiple features in the game where you communicate status to the feature leads and test team. You create test cases and update them during the course of development.
Curious and passionate: You read and / or play games most days. You know what’s going on in the world of games and can’t wait to talk to others about it.
Qualitative Feedback: Can provide clear and substantive feedback on features, gameplay, progression, traversal, and level flow. We are here to find the fun! If something is not meeting our bar we want to know why.
Collaborative and humble: You know that the best work comes from a team who trusts and respects each other. You strive to collaborate with others and don’t care whose ideas win. Best ideas win.
Tech-friendly: We need folks who are flexible and willing to dive in and make changes when necessary, so you are comfortable with game engines, editors, and your suite of tools. Maybe you’ve even written a few batch files in your day!
Requirements:
- 3+ years of Unreal Engine test experience in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize and work independently, as well as in a team environment
- Experience with Unreal Insights
Responsibilities:
- Perform Soak, Smoke tests, and Sanity checks while working on several streams
- Be an individual contributor and self-starter: You don’t wait around for someone to tell you what to do
- Work as QA on a medium-size action / adventure title
- Work directly with the QA team to log, triage & regress all bugs, big & small, in great detail (experience in Jira is a plus!)
- Verify game stability and performance across platforms
- Gather and analyze game statistics
- Plan, Create, and Execute Automated tests
- Play to your strengths and not be afraid to admit your weaknesses
- Work with outsourced / external QA
- Communicate any major shifts in performance to vested parties
- Report crashes and analyze the crash database
- Assist dedicated code crew with daily tasks
- Take direction & criticism - it’s super important that small teams are able to trust and respect each other and sometimes that means having difficult conversations. We’re looking for folks who not only give feedback, but seek it
- Create Test Cases in order to find the Memory and Frame Rate degradations
- Be a source of truth and knowledge base for what works, what is broken, what rocks & what sucks about the game right now
Benefits:
- Paid parental leave
- Monthly snack box
- Flexible PTO and work from home policies
- Salary range: $84,000 to $102,000, depending on experience
- Bonus to ensure a comfortable work from home setup
- 401k and FSA
- Short term & long term disability insurance coverage
- Health, dental & vision insurance
