About The Role

We are looking for a Senior Project Controller to coordinate effective project controls systems (estimating, planning and cost engineering), to forecast and monitor project costs for our underground projects at Kennecott at all stages of the project lifecycle.


This is a Professional role making a contribution through applying technical/professional knowledge to solve complex problems and recommend solutions, contributes to process improvements. Excellent opportunity to showcase your leadership skills being a subject matter expert, implement best practices, work in a collaborative team environment, and provide guidance to cross-functional teams.


Reporting to the Projects Control Manager and working in a collaborative community you will


  • Coordinates the setup and implementation of project progress measurement practices.
  • Coordinate the development of Final Forecast Cost (FFC) and proactive identification of risks and mitigation.
  • Coordinates the development of project control accounts and budget.
  • Utilizes the guidance and protocols for project controls in the capital projects framework.
  • Coordinates the implementation of effective contingency and change management process.
  • Creates, maintains, and reports on the project forecast and other project controls data.
  • Maintains relationships internally with the procurement and estimating groups to ensure accuracy in current trends.
  • Provides technical support to project stakeholders.
  • Coordinates compliance with standardized processes, systems and tools.
  • Coordinates the setup and issuance of cost reports, including cost control curves.
  • Coordinates the development of contingency and change management procedure.
  • Manages the relationship with project control stakeholders internally and with contracting partners.
  • Proactively analyses and report budget and cost variations.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities for streamlining project controls work process.


What You’ll Bring


To succeed in role you will have


  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Proven ability to operate independently, within a team, and build collaborative relationships within teams
  • Capable to work in challenging environments, and maintain effective time management skills
  • Demonstrated skills in cost control, understanding of planning and scheduling, estimation, risk activities, within a project management environment
  • At least 10 years of experience, preferably in underground metal mining
  • Strong people skills, with the ability to work with all stakeholders and contractors
  • Well-developed analytical and technical competencies, excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization


It will also be beneficial if you have


  • Experience with cost management systems
  • Computer competency (Excel, Word, SAP, etc.)
  • Experience in underground mining

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States.
