Summary


Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), this position is responsible for the oversight and management of the operations of the Rebecca D Considine Research Institute (RDCRI) and the Department of Graduate Medical Education (GME), critical business units driving the elevation of the ACH academic profile. The Sr Director of Academic Administration will:


  • Ensure the RDCRI & GME facilities/scientific operations efficiently support academic pursuits of the investigators including research, teaching, service, and improvement science
  • Ensure the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the GME department as it fulfills its mission to create outstanding clinical scientists through a world-class learning environment.


Responsibilities
  • Prepares, manages, and adheres to ACH financial stewardship expectations in the management of the RDCRI and GME budgets to maintain expenditure controls and authorize commitment of resources in grant applications and contracts.
  • Authorizes commitment of resources in grant applications and contracts and provides signatory authority: for all grant applications, reviews space, equipment, and percent-effort commitments.
  • Works collaboratively with the CAO in the development and tactical execution of the academic strategic plan.
  • Collaborates with ACH Finance and Foundation to identify candidate funding sources to execute the academic mission.
  • Oversees the academic leadership teams, is responsible for their professional development, and facilitates their effectiveness in their respective areas. Provides direction to RDCRI and GME leadership; develops and manages performance to meet ACH goals and expectations.
  • Serves as institutional official for the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Serves as institutional official for NIH loan repayment program and will serve as institutional officer for the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) once created. Serves on related regulatory and safety committees.
  • Directs and facilitates the structures and processes to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of RDCRI resources, including finance, grants administration, contract management, human resources, and information services for research administration, technology commercialization, facility planning, all core laboratory services, laboratory and research facilities, research education, research compliance, and the IRB relationship.
  • Represents the interests of the RDCRI in research matters to senior leadership and key stakeholders within the hospital, and with the local, regional, national and international scientific communities as directed by the CAO.

  • Effective at establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships, recruits' staff, and is committed to the professional development of people
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, team facilitation and time management skills required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word]


Education and Experience


  • Education: Master’s degree in finance, business, life science, health care administration or related area is required. PhD preferred.
  • Strong record of research leadership experience with at least five (5) years in a well-established research institution is required. Experience in a pediatric research institute is preferred.
  • Experienced in ACGME standards, expectations, and requirements for residencies and fellowships
