About the Role
We are seeking an experienced accountant who has knowledge and professional judgment to review contracts and transactions, determine proper accounting treatment, and record in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and NYT financial policies. The ideal candidate should also have the ability to query and analyze data sets, summarize data in a concise and meaningful manner, and highlight insights that help inform validating recorded transactions and decision-making.
Responsibilities:
  • Participate in month end closing work including the preparation of journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Aid in researching accounting questions related to internal and external reporting issues to ensure that financial results are reported in a complete and accurate manner consistent with the Company’s policies and accounting guidelines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in revenue and operating departments to foster communication, learn about new contracts and products, improve processes and controls, and to ensure the accuracy of accounting, reporting and analysis.
  • Participate as a member of multiple project teams as assigned.
  • Review customer contracts and other transactions and ensure/document the proper accounting following ASC 606 or other relevant accounting standards.
  • Participate in accounting and financial activities as assigned.
  • Support NYT’s Sarbanes-Oxley program by participating in quarterly and annual assessments, testing, review and/or remediation of test exceptions.
  • Compile information to satisfy requests from the Company’s external auditors in a complete and accurate manner.

  • Recommend, document, and implement processes and controls to facilitate the proper accounting of revenue and expense contracts.
  • Query, mine, analyze and report on data sets and leverage data analytics tools to validate and support recorded transactions.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of technical accounting pronouncements and standards (GAAP, FASB)
  • 3+ years of accounting experience
  • Degree in Accounting or Finance needed
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA Preferred
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and effective under pressure with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Comfort in interpreting existing data and distilling analysis for management
  • Ability to apply professional discretion and judgment to accounting matters
  • Experience with Workday
  • Advanced excel skills (i.e. macros, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work seamlessly with multiple stakeholders in a cross functional team including the ability to understand business objectives and translate into transactional and reporting impacts
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems successfully and deliver on multiple tasks concurrently
  • Ability to understand, analyze and summarize complex financial data in a clear concise manner
The annual base pay range for this role is between $85,000.00 and $105,000.00.
