The Sales Specialist is responsible for the support of Neogen sales products and services to a defined market or segment of customers and accounts. In addition, this role will need to support the Livestock Team in the same defined market or segment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop sales plans (Plan of Action) and strategies to penetrate and capture business at the top 30-50 accounts for the defined segment/market. Provides written updates monthly and works with the Livestock sales team to capture this business.
  • Support and drive the technical expertise of the Livestock Team in the defined area of focus.
  • Presents new product ideas to management and once approved help commercialize new product(s).
  • Work with marketing on advertising and promotional activities for assigned product lines to increase market share of target products.
  • Communicate with existing customer base on a consistent basis to: (1) monitor customer satisfaction; (2) resolve customer problems and concerns; and (3) monitor competitive position.
  • Develop long-lasting business relationships with key customers and industry influencers to support and increase Neogen’s market position.
  • Accompany the Livestock Team on customer visits to help provide technical and sales support to assist with closing new business opportunities.
  • Meets or exceeds assigned budgeted sales revenues for assigned products and/or market segment.
  • Read industry publications to keep abreast of industry, customer and competitor news, shares articles of interest with the organization.
  • Keeps management up-to-date on market conditions and competitive situations.
  • Compile records and report on sales activities in sales management software (CRM/Salesforce).
  • Work with sales team to ensure accurate forecasting of sales.
  • Represent the company and analyze industry trade shows and meetings to: (1) promote products and services; (2) increase market and competitive knowledge; and (3) identify new products for distribution, OEM or development. May be asked to present at industry trade shows and/or distributor meetings.
  • Execute sales and marketing programs that have been developed by marketing and approved by management.
  • Complete all other assigned tasks as requested by supervisor and/or executive management in a timely fashion.
  • Analyze and control expenditures to conform to budgetary requirements.
  • Actively makes suggestions and proposals for ways to improve effectiveness and improve product quality.
  • Collaborate with communications to develop and provide product marketing material and programs that are effective and profitable.
  • Participate in annual budgeting process.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office, and Salesforce/CRM applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal & written) skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate business literature/market standards.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Ag Business, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of sales experience preferred but not required.
