Position Summary
Under the direction of the Area Sales Manager, the Sales Account Manager will be responsible for effectively managing their assigned accounts and quarry/pits that is aligned with our value proposition and optimize market share and profitability.
Primary Responsibilities
Key accountabilities of the position include:
Strategy
- Assist in the development and execution of the Front Range strategic market plan to coordinate sales and marketing efforts for your assigned accounts.
- Drive the development of account strategies for your assigned customers, aligning efforts with Affiliates and the other Areas in cases where the customer interacts.
- Collect and report on key market trends, competitive and customer information, or other key data and report your findings and insights to the Area Sales Manager, Regional Sales Manager and VP/GM.
Plan/Forecasting
- Develop mitigation plans to address key negative volume and/or pricing variances.
- Develop yearly sales (revenue and volume) budgets based on market intelligence acquired through customer interaction, Department of Transportation spending, and other market informational tools for your assigned customers.
- Budget key customers by product, by business unit to track actual versus Plan/Forecast. Review actual versus planned/forecasted results.
Account Management
- As the Sales Account Manager, you will have the responsibility to develop relationships with key decision makers and influencers and drive the account growth strategies for your assigned accounts.
- Develop and implement strategies for your customers in your market area that will align with the Front Range rail strategy and operational optimization.
- Understand your customers’ purchasing requirements and develop strategies to differentiate Martin Marietta’s ability to uniquely meet these needs
Pricing/Quoting
- Have a mastery of market pricing trends, competitor tendencies, backlogs and capabilities that supports project and customer annual pricing recommendations.
- Follow established quoted market pricing guidelines for your Area Sale’s team.
Operations Coordination
- Coordinate with plant management and logistics/dispatch concerning the impact of jobs and customer demand on product availability and other operational considerations.
Accounts Receivables
- Manage and enter sales orders. Work effectively with district personnel regarding daily sales decisions, new accounts and accounts receivable.
- Ensure accurate tracking of jobs using major/minor coding.
Reporting
- Effectively manage your backlog by allocating volumes in a timely manner that is consistent with management expectations.
- Provide monthly reporting on customer and market as per requested by the Area Sales Manager.
Skills
- Excel in consultative, solutions-oriented selling.
Industry
- Represent the company with major contractors, as well as federal, state, and local government agencies and industry associations involved in regulating, specifying, or purchasing construction materials.
Qualifications and Requirements

- Ability to perform well under stress and meet deadlines
Preferred Requirements
- Sound working knowledge of aggregates and construction materials, including basic knowledge of customer uses of our products (pavement bases, concrete plants, asphalt plants)
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, or related field
Other
- Minimum of 2 years sales experience in the aggregates industry or related field (construction)
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Proficient in MS applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team to achieve district, division and company objective
Compensation & Benefits
We are excited to share the base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $105,000, exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). This position is eligible for our annual discretionary bonus program. The offered base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The posted range for this role represents the total reasonable pay range and does not solely represent a hiring range. Therefore, hiring at the top or maximum of the range should not be expected as it would not allow for salary growth opportunities in the role, would diminish promotion value, and may not align with internal equity.
