We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled RNA Scientist to join our VC-backed startup working on the development of next-generation mRNA-based therapeutics. This is a unique opportunity to define the scientific direction and company culture of an exciting new company in the nucleic acid therapy space.
Our proprietary technology uniquely limits mRNA expression to only desired cell subtypes or substates. With our novel programmable control elements we unlock new ways of treating diseases by targeting cells as a whole, rather than individual proteins. We are in the most exciting part of our company’s life: forming the identity of our revolutionary platform. In this job you will be responsible for the design and evaluation of new precision-expressed therapeutic candidates, bringing the long-awaited promise of mRNA therapies to life.
We are hiring at all levels – the exact level for the candidate will be determined by level of experience.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze data and generate reports, interpret and present results to the team.
- Inform and develop the company's strategy around mRNA design, manufacturing, and delivery.
- Design and execute experiments to generate and evaluate new mRNA-based therapeutic candidates, testing hypotheses around RNA structure, expression and stability
- Collaborate closely with other team members to execute company goals and drive innovation.
- Utilize deep expertise in RNA structural biology and protein expression to contribute to and generate novel IP.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of experiments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data and results clearly and concisely.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot experiments and interpret results.
- Substantial hands-on expertise & domain knowledge in RNA – including production & QC of high quality mRNA, interrogating structure and RNA-protein interactions, post-transcriptional regulation, mRNA stability and expression, codon optimality, UTR usage and/or pre-clinical evaluation of mRNA-based medicines
- Experience with non viral delivery, manufacturing, or in vivo models is a strong plus.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with a positive and collaborative attitude.
- A Ph.D. degree in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field or equivalent industry experience
- Strong quantitative thinking & experimental planning with ferocious note-taking.
- Computational biology skills in RNA structure design and experimental analysis are preferred
We offer a competitive salary and benefits package and an opportunity to work with a dynamic and motivated team. We are located at Bakar Labs, right off the UC Berkeley campus. This is a full-time, in person position.
