Reu Intern-Sleep Lab Jobs

The SRI Center for Health Sciences is looking for an on-site summer intern to work on various projects in the lab. The main project will be the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study. The NIH-sponsored ABCD Study is a multi-site nationwide study following 10,000 children for 10 years. It is the largest study to date to examine factors (e.g., sleep, physical activity, stress, trauma, substance use) that influence child and adolescent neurodevelopment.

We analyze continuous brain EEG recordings (overnight during sleep), data from wearables (bio signals, such as physical activity, heart rate), and longitudinal combined self-report and clinical measures. With an abundance of data accumulated here at SRI, we’re able to draw significant and empirically based conclusions that can be used to guide educational workers, clinicians, health professionals, and policymakers in their decisions regarding adolescents. This project focuses on the relationship between sleep, obesity, and cardiovascular and mental health in adolescents. Potential downstream data analyses include the application of machine learning approaches to predict health outcomes.

Interns working on projects in the lab will get experience with clinical interviews, neuropsychological and cognitive testing, collecting bioassays (e.g., hormone levels, DNA samples), multi-modal MRI scans, and sleep-EEG assessments.

• Experience in data analysis tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python, R, Excel, or data visualization platforms.
• Current student majoring in psychology, neuroscience, or a related degree.
• Interest in adolescent or child development, neuropsychology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), sleep, substance use.
• Detail-oriented, quick learner who pays attention to detail and has good organization skills.

The salary range is $20-$27/hr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
