Must have hands-on lab experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques
Summary:The Discovery Biology Group in The Oncogenesis TRC focuses on delivering novel cancer therapeutics by targeting E3 ubiquitin ligases for selective protein degradation. We are seeking a motivated Scientist / Senior Associate Scientist with experience and understanding of cancer biology to participate in drug discovery research. The successful candidate will work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment to:
1) explore disease biology enabling identification of novel drug targets;
2) develop and implement robust cellular assays to support discovery of small molecules as clinical development candidates;
3) design and execute research strategies that further our understanding of the mechanisms of novel compounds and targets; and
4) develop collaborations and interact with external partners relevant to target discovery efforts. Responsibilities include utilizing disease models to design target validation studies and relevant assays in support of SAR, mechanism of action, mechanisms of resistance, biomarker selection, and disease positioning. The successful candidate will work within discovery project teams and with scientists across different functional areas and be expected to present her or his work at project team meetings and to research leadership.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
• Develop and implement cell-based assays to support target identification, validation, and drug development
• Design and conduct essential mechanistic experiments in cell biology, cellular biochemistry, molecular biology, and assay development
• Conduct target discovery and validation experiments in close collaboration with bioinformatics, chemistry, and HTS groups
• Accurately maintain written reports and present results in an organized and timely manner.
• Communicate effectively, foster teamwork and contribute to collaborative efforts.
• Strong commitment to quality and demonstrate adaptability.
Requirements:
• PhD degree with 0-2 years of post-doc or industry experience, or M.S. degree with 3+ years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience developing cell-based assays in the biopharmaceutical industry, preferably in Oncology
• Strong background and experience in cancer research with training in molecular and cell biology
• Extensive hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, molecular and cellular technologies (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9 knock-in/out, lentiviral transduction, western blotting, quantitative PCR, multi-color flow cytometry) and functional assays (e.g., proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle) is essential
• Experience with development of protein degraders and/or 3D/organoid solid tumor models is a plus.
• Proficiency in scientific data analysis programs including GraphPad Prism, Flow Jo, Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint, is required
• Capability to deliver high quality data in an organized and timely manner
• Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic team environment; flexibility to adapt to changes with a positive attitude and independently collaborate across teams, requiring excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong interpersonal skills.
