SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Assay Development Research Scientist I position is for candidates who have experience in developing scaled, high-sensitivity tests, and experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). The Assay Development – Research Scientist 1 will be responsible for designing and developing fully-automated, high-throughput next-generation sequencing-based genetic tests from concept through commercial launch. The assay development team strives to create a highly collaborative environment, with an emphasis on cross-functional projects. Continually assess and integrate cutting-edge technology into our laboratory and development process, our Assay Development - Research Scientists will play a key role in developing new tests as well as troubleshooting and maintaining existing assays.



KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Participate in the design and develop fully-automated, high-throughput next generation sequencing-based genetic tests from concept through commercial launch.
  • Develop scaled and high-sensitivity tests for Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Troubleshoot automated clinical laboratories’ preparation and Illumina sequencing instruments.
  • Design and optimize genetic assays.
  • Demonstrate exquisite attention to detail and organization.
  • Design/execute analyses independently with minimum scientific guidance.
  • Conduct quality control of algorithms for new and update panels.
  • Develop, test, and evaluate Next Generation Sequencing technologies.
  • Participate in highly collaborative environment, with an emphasis on cross-functional projects and teams.
  • Communicate and present results in a clear and concise manner.
  • Play a key role in developing new tests as well as troubleshooting and maintaining existing assays.



KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • PhD or Master Degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related biological sciences field of studies. Strong preference for >5 years relevant experience for MS Degree, and >3 years relevant experience for PhD. Candidates with a BS degree and NGS experience will not be considered for this position but are encouraged to apply for a Laboratory Technician position.
  • Ability to correlate next-generation sequencing data with changes in the laboratory procedure.
  • Enjoy working with the research team and collaborating with whole related teams.
  • Experience with genetics or molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA library preparation, Target amplification, and NGS.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and laboratory SOPs, and regulatory and safety procedures.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize laboratory and data analysis tasks.
  • Prior experience with CLIA/CAP laboratory and genetic company is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of human genetics, NGS, and genotyping experience is required.
  • Basic understanding of bioinformatics.
  • Ability to work independently and also in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully complete projects.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are crucial for the Research and Development scientist position.
