The Andrews Lab, in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University, is seeking a Social Science Research Professional (SSRP)/Research Program Coordinator for a research group at Stanford University focused on clinical, translational and epidemiologic studies of infectious diseases. Our interdisciplinary research team conducts field studies of new strategies for diagnosis, surveillance, treatment and prevention of tuberculosis and tropical diseases in close collaboration with investigators in Brazil, South Africa, Nepal, Bangladesh and other countries. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as clinical research, epidemiology, or public health, as well as experience with participant-oriented research. Candidates with experience conducting research in low- or middle-income countries are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be an independent and highly motivated individual who communicates well and enjoys working with an international team in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
This position may have a flexible work location, with the possible ability to be either co-located near the Stanford campus in Palo Alto, CA as a hybrid or remote worker, or any other U.S. based location as a remote worker with the opportunity to travel to campus 3 to 4 times per year for department meetings.

Duties Include
- Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed.
- Adapt or work out the details of new, nonstandard procedures, with the supervisor providing general guidance and suggestions.
- Solve problems, and make decisions that affect the direction of the research and result in independent contributions to the overall project.
- Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques.
- Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed.
- Supervise staff or students as needed, including oversight and instruction on techniques, as well as consultation on project work.
- Assist in designing experiments, exercising independent initiative and judgment gained from completing a variety of high level assignments, including activities such as defining variables, formulating hypotheses, and selecting subjects, sources of information, or planned and coordinating experimental protocols.
- Select and apply standard calculations and formulas independently to compile data or process documents; often serve as a resource for research methods and numerical analyses.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in working in different databases, and scientific applications.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field such as clinical research, epidemiology, or public health, as well as experience with participant-oriented research.
- Experience in statistical analyses and data visualization using R.
- Experience conducting research in low- or middle-income countries.
- Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field and two years applicable experience, or combination of education and experience in an applicable social science.
- Developing supervisory skills.
- Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.
- Comprehensive understanding of scientific theory and methods.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
- Ability to work with human study participants.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
- General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
- Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.
- Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, operate foot and/or hand controls.
Working Conditions
- May be required to work non-standard, extended or weekend hours in support of research work.
