Position Summary
Plans, supervises, and manages research, investigation, or other technical operations of nutrition and food insecurity-related research efforts within the Center for Health Equity. Provides technical expertise to facilitate the design, implementation, and analysis of procedures, techniques, and results, which enables investigators to conduct research projects. Supports grant writing, reports, presentations and publications related to research projects. Develops partnerships internally and externally for population health and community-engaged research efforts.
Position Key Accountabilities

• Participates in manuscripts and scientific reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Coordinates support, engagement, and resources for priority population health research initiatives related to nutrition, food insecurity, related structural and social determinants of health in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Develops manuals of procedures for research projects, including training protocols for research staff, recruitment and retention materials for study participants. Submits and obtains IRB approval for research projects. Maintains human subjects research approval status for research projects.
• Assists with determining feasibility of possible projects to ensure results will have a significant impact. Determines project feasibility in terms of staff, time, and resources.
• Manages data collection, management and analysis plans for research projects. Conducts analysis of data for research projects and/or works closely with research staff to oversee the analysis. Evaluates the data from the analysis.
• Develops training plans related to research project, conducts hiring and training of research staff for research protocols. Develops quality control procedures for research project as applicable.
• Assists with writing and submission of grant applications for research projects related to nutrition.
• Manages and performs quantitative and qualitative research procedures in various areas of nutrition, food insecurity, related structural and social determinants of health, population health or related scientific areas. Identifies the problem through contact and partnership with other researchers, practitioners, or literature searches. Formulates a problem or project to research. Develops procedures and protocols related to the research area.
• Provides work direction and guidance to personnel within department. May lead projects and activities.
• Ensures direct reports follow safety procedures and attends basic safety training courses.

Certification/Skills
Considerable knowledge in basic and sophisticated equipment.
Registered Dietitian in the State of Texas preferred.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with three (3) years of related research experience including experience in a lead research role; or
Master’s degree in a related field with one (1) year of related research experience including experience in a lead research role; or Doctorate degree.
Masters degree in nutrition, public health or a related field preferred.
Minimum Experience
Years of experience varies based on education level.
Physical Requirements
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
