Position Focus:

Dr. Peter Krause at YSPH, is seeking a part time (80% FTE) Research Assistant for his lab. The research is focused on babesiosis, Borrelia miyamotoi, and Lyme disease- all tick borne infections. and, some work on malaria. There are two main components of this research: 1.Laboratory work- centrifuging blood, removal of sera, packaging blood for freezer storage or transport to other labs and on stored blood; performing ELISA antibody assays: and babesia and malaria cultures. 2. Computer work - Organizing and maintaining our computer data base that lists data on study subjects, their paper files and their frozen blood specimens.
The primary duties will be:
1. Perform some laboratory benchwork processing human blood and working with babesia culture systems. 2. Organize and summarize data from database and computer files; creates tables. 3. Assure data integrity. 4. Develop or assist the investigators with HIC/IRB protocols for submission. 5. Assist in data collection, coding, collection, and mailing of any bio-specimens based on the study protocols and in collaboration with the investigators. 6. Serve as the primary contact among investigators, vendors, IRB and funding agencies. 7. Monitor and ensure adherence to all human subject research regulations of all investigators and good clinical practice guidelines, and prepare monitoring reports. 8. Identify vendors and negotiate contracts for research related services. 9. Coordinate research activities with research collaborators and organizes face to face and virtual meetings and conference calls. 10. Organizes laboratory space, freezers, refrigerators.

Essential Duties

1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for research projects. 2. Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Modifies and plans research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments. Assists in research design. 3. Writes and edits material for publication and presentation. Reports on status of research activities. Oversees and instructs research and support staff on technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance. 4. Schedules and coordinates research activities. Identifies and recruits study participants. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 5. May assist in preparing financial information and monitoring budgets. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Strong experience in a lab. Proficiency with databases and experience developing, implementing and modifying data entry systems. Experience with Elisa and cell culture. Experience working with Excel spreadsheets, or Access.
