Job Description
Overview
The Research Assistant II will work in the productive environment of a federal and privately funded laboratory focused on the development of innovative cell and gene therapies for the treatment of inflammation and cancers, using immune- and virus-based approaches. The incumbent will be a proficient and experienced researcher with a solid foundation in molecular biology, cloning, and tissue culture. The incumbent will conduct research independently or with minimal supervision, participate in the design of experiments, analyze data, and may contribute to manuscripts. This position will also provide training to other individuals who may be assigned to the laboratory on a regular or temporary basis.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in experiments, analyze data, formulate conclusions, and create appropriate statistical visualizations (such as graphs and charts) for the purpose of reporting research/laboratory results.
  • Independently process and deliver presentations of scientific data.
  • Perform necessary administrative tasks, such as grant progress reports.
  • Manage inventory of basic laboratory supplies and specific project necessities. Purchase inventory to maintain stock as needed.
  • Meet regularly with Principal Investigator (PI) and colleagues to review lab data, troubleshoot problems, prioritize tasks, and discuss newly published scientific literature relevant to the cell and gene therapy field.
  • Educate, train, and supervise new students and other research staff that assist on the project.
  • Operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, pH meter, analytical balance, scintillation counter, spectrophotometer, light microscope, and/or laminar flow hood. May also utilize other sophisticated instrumentation such as fluorescence or luminescence spectrophotometer.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field required.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of three years of laboratory experience performing relevant techniques is required. A Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience.
  • Previous experience with virus, such as AAV, retrovirus, and HSV, is preferred.
