The Tsai (www.tsailab.com) and Rosen (http://evanrosenlab.com) labs are part of BIDMC’s endocrine division and seek to better understand the genetic, epigenetic, and tissue/cell type bases of metabolic disease. We utilize cutting-edge next generation technologies and sequencing platforms in both humans and animal models. In particular, we study the biological circuits and gene regulatory networks underlying obesity and type 2 Diabetes in human and rodent models. Dr. Rosen and Tsai are Endocrine Division Chief and Asst. Professor at HMS respectively and members of the Broad Institute. Our labs provide a vibrant research environment with close links to top academic institutions and hospitals across the Boston area and the potential for contributions to be used and recognized worldwide. We are currently seeking a talented, motivated research assistant with an undergraduate science degree and ideally some undergrad or summer experience working in the laboratory environment with some exposure to mouse colony maintenance, which will be the main required job responsibility.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • May assist with planning specific research procedures and coordinating schedules of tests and procedures
  • Performs routine and non-routine laboratory tests which may include DNA sequencing, gene cloning, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, northern blotting; synthesizes and interprets results.
  • May prepare written and/or verbal reports on status of research and the technical procedures used, including statistical and graphic summaries of findings and possible conclusions.
  • Using analytical abilities and sound judgment, makes decisions regarding the reliability and accuracy of results, repeating procedures when necessary.
  • May operate and maintain moderate to complex lab equipment such as spectrophotometer, flow cytometer, etc.
Required Qualifications:


  • 0-1 years related work experience required.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related scientific field required.

  • Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
  • Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are based on specific instructions, standard practices and established procedures which generally require little or no supervision.
  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
  • Independence of Action: Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided. Work is monitored by supervisor/manager.


Physical Nature of the Job:


Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
