The State of Connecticut, Department of Labor (DOL) is currently recruiting for one (1) durational Research Analyst position in the Office of Research located in Wethersfield, CT.

The Office of Research is Connecticut’s leading producer of information and statistics on the economy, workplace, occupations, and careers. The Office prepares a variety of print and electronic resources for assessing the state’s needs for skilled workers, assisting in economic development initiatives, aiding in the program planning of education and training providers, and guiding the career choices of job seekers and students.

The Research Analyst position is needed to participate in a pilot collecting extra data elements in the Occupational Employment and Wages Statistics (OEWS) survey for FY 2024.

The Research Analyst will take part in all aspects of the survey processes, which include address refinement, data collection and review, non-response follow-up, quality assurance, estimates review, and publication of estimates.

Please Note: This position is durational with an end date of 10/03/2024 with a possibility of an extension.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Six (6) years of professional experience in research, data analysis or economics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • Successful completion of a Connecticut Careers Trainee program approved by the Department of Administrative Services may be substituted for the General Experience.
  • College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
  • A Master's degree in economics, statistics or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of sampling and statistical principles, methods, and surveys;
  • Experience in analyzing occupational employment and wage data;
  • Experience with compliance for policies, procedures, and processes for safe, ethical, and secure use of data;
  • Experience with or knowledge of the Standard Occupational Classification system;
  • Experience in state, municipal, or federal government;
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing, cleaning, and analyzing large datasets;
  • Experience using tools for data preparation and analysis, such as Excel, Access, SAS, STATA;
  • Experience in communicating effectively to collect data;
