The staff nurse provides direct patient care, collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians and other members of the health care team in the delivery of health care services to the specific patient population. The staff nurse assesses patient's needs, plans care, implements and evaluates patient care in accordance with the patient’s needs based on the nurses knowledge of growth/development, the hospital and nursing philosophy, policies/procedures and standards. He/she demonstrates leadership/management skills and a commitment to professional accountability and growth. Position may require working at alternate sites.

The scrub nurse is part of a team comprised of registered nurses, radiology techs and radiologists to perform procedures. The team works together to position the patient, prep and drape the patient for the procedure. The scrub nurse will be required to have knowledge of the IRL nursing role and the IRL scrub role.

When acting as nurse, they will verify the patient order and check for lab results and history in the patient’s medical record. During the procedure, they will initiate the timeout, monitor patient and document procedure in the electronic health record. They will be required to have knowledge of moderate sedation and neuro/stroke protocols. They will also work periodically in CT, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine.

When scrubbing, they will assist the radiologist during angiographic and interventional procedures by preparing the supply tray, passing guide wires and catheters and working in the sterile field with the radiologist. They will lean the radiologists’ preference of supplies and have knowledge of scrub technique for all procedures performed in IRL.

Scrubs to assist with passage of guide wires/catheters.

Loads power injectors with contrast media; prepares for injection.

Prepares supplies for procedures. Sets up and maintains sterile trays and other equipment, practicing sterile technique. Passes instruments and supplies to radiologist.

Assists in orientation and training of new scrub staff.

Maintains an inventory of catheters, balloons, stents guide wires and miscellaneous kits under discretion of the IRL supervisor.

Performs Neuro and Vascular angiographic and interventional procedures.

Anticipates radiologists’ needs by review of preference cards and procuring appropriate supplies.

Demonstrates cost effectiveness by using judgment when opening and using supplies.

Stocks rooms appropriately for exams and at end of shift.

Assists radiologist during angiographic and interventional procedures.

This position is responsible for independently placing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC Lines) and Midlines. A professional Registered Nurse who possesses and demonstrates excellent clinical skills and knowledge in the field of Vascular Access. Coordinates vascular access needs of patient with unit nurses and physicians. Will be trained in the use of the BARD Sherlock 3cg for placement of PICC lines, and will complete detailed competencies for its use. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to use Ultrasound for placement of Midlines and IV’s. Educates patients and family to insure understanding of both the need for vascular access and placement procedure. Call is not required.

The registered nurse is part of a team comprised of radiology techs and radiologists to perform procedures. The team works together to position the patient, prep and drape the patient for the procedure. The nurse will initiate the timeout, monitor patient and document procedure in electronic health record. There are extensive competencies that will be required for the many procedures performed in IRL. A detailed reference book will be provided for these procedures. Call is required.

Checks all IRL Crash Carts.

Cerebral angiograms including carotid stent, intracranial stents, aneurysm coiling and AVM repair.

Stroke procedures including intra-arterial TPA and mechanical thrombectomy.

GI Angiograms for GI bleed, embolizations and mesenteric ischemia.

Renal Angiograms including PTA/Stent and tumor embolization.

Lower extremity run-offs including colds legs with thrombolysis.

Nephrostomy tubes and Ureteral Stents.

PICC lines, triple-lumen catheters, dialysis catheters and tunneled dialysis catheters.

TIPS, Vertebral Augmentations and Lumbar Punctures.

CT scan-guided biopsies and drainage catheters.

Ultrasound-guided Paracentesis, Thoracentesis and biopsies.

Assist in Nuclear Medicine with cardiac patients, thyrogen procedures and other nuclear medicine patients.

Call is required for applicants hired after September 2014. Not required for PICC/Vascular Access nurses.

Attends required professional development sessions and staff meetings. If unable to attend, review minutes or discuss proceedings of meetings with peers or managers.
