Position: Referral Coordinator

Job Profile Summary:

• Schedules and pre-registers patients for exams and procedures with specialists and providers outside of the primary care physician's office.
• Performs varied activities and basic to moderately complex administrative/operational/customer support assignments.
• Typically works on semi-routine assignments.

• Has some latitude over prioritization/timing and works within established policies/practices and guidelines with minimal opportunity for deviation and works under minimal supervision /direction.
• Follows standard policies/practices that allow for minimal opportunity for interpretation/deviation and/or independent discretion.
• Gathers and communicates all relative information and preparation instructions to patient and referring providers.
• Decisions are typically focus on interpretation of area/department policy and methods for completing assignments.
• Works within defined parameters to identify work expectations, activities, daily priorities, monitoring progress towards schedules/goals, and quality standards,.

Job Functions:

• Prepares and processes all referral paperwork.
• Responds to patient inquiries regarding health plan referrals.
• Contacts various offices/facilities to obtain necessary appointments for completing referrals.
• Researches health plan to identify preferred in-network providers and requirements for referral authorization; provides supporting documentation to health plan, as needed.
• Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
• Gathers pertinent information from physicians, nurse practitioners and nursing staff to complete referrals.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience with EMRs (Electronic Medical Records) / Medical Records
• This role is considered patient facing and is part of the company's Tuberculosis (TB) screening program. If selected for this role, you will be required to be screened for TB
• Proficient with medical terminology
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Medical Referral Experience
• 2-3 years of hands-on healthcare experience in a clinical setting, preferably within the Medicare population
• Excellent professional communication abilities, at all levels within the organization and with patients, at all times

Preferred Qualifications:

• Medical Assistant or Professional State Certifications related to healthcare
• Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration and/or High School Diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of ICD 10 and CPT coding
• Bilingual in English/Spanish without any assistance
