Job Description
The Position


The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of Recreation Services Coordinator to fill one (1) vacancy in the Recreation Division of the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department.The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.


The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has fifty-eight parks, totaling 2,880 acres of developed parkland, twelve community centers, three senior centers, two social service centers, one youth opportunity center, one youth innovation center, one nature center, eight pools, and approximately 24 miles of trails. Join the Department and team that provides convenient, affordable and equitable recreation services to the community through organized youth and adult sports, aquatics programs, cultural arts, community special events, intervention and prevention programs, nature programs, recreation contract classes, activities and education, mobile recreation programs and after school programs.


Recreation Services Coordinators, under general supervision, plan, organize, lead, and conduct the recreational program or community services of a community area or center; provide responsible and technical staff assistance; and do related work as required.


Work Performed


Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Supervise the use and care of recreational equipment and buildings
  • Participate in program planning meetings and assist in developing program and activity plans and reviewing current programs.
  • Supervise, train and evaluate subordinates.
  • Plan, organize, supervise, lead and participate in a recreation program for a neighborhood center or a community service program.
  • Supervise and participate in various games and sporting events.
  • Plan and conduct group tours and outings.
  • Requisition recreational supplies and materials, maintain an inventory, and control their use.
  • Prepare recreation club records of membership and participation.
  • Organize athletic, craft, social and instructional activities.
  • Assist in the direction of a recreational activity for a community area, either in a recreational center or for an area program.
  • Develop participant interest and enthusiasm.


When Assigned To The PRCS Marketing Team


  • Develop department informational, educational, and outreach materials and activities as requested, including internal training documents and attending events.
  • Organize and maintain photos and videos for department programs and activities, including tracking photography needs for upcoming outreach and ensuring digital files are organized.
  • Attend public meetings, as needed; serve on city-wide committees for special events.
  • Conduct and attend various training seminars, staff meetings, and community meetings.
  • Develop and update content for the department's digital presence, including website, social media platforms, and outgoing correspondence.
  • Develop department informational, educational, and outreach materials and activities as requested, including internal training documents and attending events.
  • Write content for public communications, including newsletters, flyers, brochures, posters, banners, press releases, and social media posts.

  • Receive project and/or issue direction from Department Director or Designee, as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance to the department regarding effective marketing strategies.
  • Photograph programs, events, and CIP projects.
  • Manage the data gathering and production process of the quarterly activity guide, including the proofing schedule, gathering content, and working with staff to ensure accuracy and timeliness.


Qualifications


Education: Equivalent to an Associate's Degree from an accredited college with major work in recreation or a closely related field.


Experience: One year of experience in group recreational activity leadership.


Highly Desired Qualifications


  • Marketing
  • Experience in one of the following program areas:
  • Knowledge of Digital Marketing techniques and Social Media Platforms.
  • One or more years of experience supervising a staff of four (4) or more.
  • Knowledge in Creative Cloud using InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom and AfterEffect.
  • Community Center Operations
  • One (1) year of experience working on contract classes and field allocations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle conflicts or challenges that may arise during recreational activities.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to handle changing priorities and unexpected situations.
  • Experience in budget management and resource allocation for recreational programs.
  • Bachelor's of Arts degree in Marketing, Recreation, Public Administration or a closely related field.
  • One year experience working with or developing programming for adaptive learners.
  • One (1) year experience in monitoring of a recreation program or community center operations.
  • Experience working within the community and non-profit organizations is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record for creativity and innovation to develop new and exciting recreational programs.
  • One (1) year of experience in supervision, training, and evaluation of part-time staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and connect with diverse groups of people including local partners and school district.
  • Experience creating flyers and similar design elements.
Necessary Special Requirement


Possession of an appropriate, valid class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
