Job Description
Job Summary

The R&D Scientist that NuSil is looking for will lead developmental projects that create custom customer-focused silicone-based solutions. The R&D Scientist leads new product developments, organizing, prioritizing, and delivering on key project milestones. The R&D Scientist is expected to draw upon an understanding of polymeric materials chemistry, properties, formulation, and molecular synthesis to provide the team with sound technical guidance.  They will lead the execution of experimental studies to generate data and drive the development of new products from concept through commercialization.

The team  
The R&D Scientist within our Research and Development Group will lead and develop new molecules (e.g., Intermediate materials) that will be used in our Advanced Technology and Biomaterials NDP groups. They partner closely with department peers (e.g., Applications & NPD Scientist) and engage cross-functionally with Chemists and Technicians to drive projects in Research Science – let’s talk!   

What we’re looking for 
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) in Chemistry or similar science from four-year college, required.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years relevant experience working with silicone required
  • Preferred Qualifications: 
    • Advanced degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
    • 5 years’ experience as a silicone or related position in industry or a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Senior Chemist at NuSil

How you will thrive and create an impact 
Our R&D Scientist is responsible for leading new silicone-based chemistry, materials, and technology developments to create new products for existing and potential new customers.
  • Conduct and oversee experimental designs, data gathering and data analysis. 
  • Work closely with Process Development, Engineering, and the Manufacturing groups to review process flow and design and implement improvements where needed. 
  • Provide technical support to R&D staff and assists in hands-on training. 
  • Write and review specific technical procedures, customer correspondence, and project proposals. 
  • Follow proper documentation procedures, including keeping up-to-date and correct records. 
  • Direct scale-up of material from R&D to production. 
  • Direct the development of new process methodology.  
  • Bring routine and non-routine problems to attention of management.
