The R&D Sports Medicine group is dedicated to innovating and improving procedural solutions for Hip, Knee, Shoulder, and Extremities surgeons. Developing safe, simple-to-use, and effective products helps patients return to their normal everyday lives. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our R&D Sports Medicine team in Summer 2023.
As an intern on the R&D Sports Medicine team, you will support project teams by completing hands-on development and prototyping, while applying good documentation practices. You will have opportunities to develop test methods that analyze failure modes of your designs, while challenging your prototype’s functionality in cadaveric settings. Through collaboration with your engineering design team, surgeons, machinists, and quality, this internship will develop your engineering skills and principals focused on product development and design improvements.
Intern Responsibilities Will Include:
- Conduct range finding testing and facilitate verification activities
- Help define product user needs by collaborating with surgeons and other engineering team members
- Present product prototype ideas, test data, project status, and technical specifications to team members and management
- Develop prototypes using 3D printing and/or collaboration with machinists and vendors
- Design products, components, and equipment using CAD Software (SolidWorks)
- Develop design documents including test protocols, reports, and design drawings.
Position Requirements:
- Must be available to work onsite in the Largo, FL facility
- Pursuing completion of a bachelors or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or another closely related field
- Must be available to work forty hours per week, Monday – Friday, May 22 – July 28, 2023.
