Job Description
Job Summary


Prepare samples and to evaluate and organize laboratory testing of new and existing products.


To assist in the development of new and improved products, and to provide technical support to other departments. Take and carry out instructions and assignments as given by R&D Scientists and Engineers. Document and report procedures and results of assignments.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Conduct in-house accelerated ageing tests on current and new film components and products using QUV and Xenon Arc weather-o-meters, outside test panels and other test methods. Measure and record film properties at regular intervals. Summarize periodic and final results in database, providing any additional input concerning test samples for conclusions and recommendations in written reports.
  • Ensure that all laboratory equipment remains in good working condition (through proper maintenance) and that they are calibrated on a regular basis in line with established internal and ISO requirements. Receive up to date training on equipment operation and maintenance as needed.
  • Provide support to other R&D personnel in the form of sample preparation (glass panel cleaning, sample mounting, etc.), measurement of window film component and product properties on equipment in R&D Laboratory (haze, visible light transmission, thickness, etc.) as instructed.


Additional Duties And Responsibilities


  • Help achieve company Quality Policy goals and support the maintenance of the ISO process while performing duties.
  • Interact with and foster good working relationships with equipment vendors/ technical personnel in maintaining weathering and laboratory equipment
  • Support Production and Sales/Marketing, perform other duties as assigned.
  • Enhance knowledge base through seminars, workshops, and other industry-oriented technical offerings.
  • Follow and support all company policies, including safe personal working practices and promotion of safety throughout company.


Management System (qms/Ems) Responsibilities

Desired Minimum Qualifications


  • Good mechanical aptitude is a plus
  • Some computer skills are required
  • High school diploma or GED with 2 years of college level science coursework, or 2 years in a R&D/manufacturing laboratory environment, or 2 years combined experience of education/ work history.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents (standards, rules, instructions, manuals).
  • Ability to work under limited supervision with basic understandings of concepts, theory and functions of equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.


Special Requirements


To perform this job successfully, an individual needs to learn and have a basic understanding of the concept and theory behind the research projects they conduct in the lab. They have learned or developed experience and have the capability of self-guidance or independence while working on new products, customer entailed products, and testing.


Tools And Equipment Used


Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, Q&A Software, LBL Software (Windows 5.0), UV/VIS/IR Spectrophotometer, Data color Instrument, Haze-Gard, Optical Densitometer, Peel Tester, balances, laminator, mixer, Taber abrader.


Physical Demands


Must be able to move from building to building in all weather conditions, and throughout each building and facility. Job requires the ability to climb ladders, stoop, crawl into tight areas, and stand or sit for extended periods of time. Good eyesight is needed for the inspection and classification of defects. The ability to see and differentiate colors is essential for color matching and evaluation.


Work Environment


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of ultra violet radiation. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and must be able to stand, sit and walk. Specific abilities require close vision, color vision, and the ability to focus using microscopes. The employee will be required to feel various materials, to talk to and to hear others. The employee is responsible for using the proper personal protective equipment.
