Job Description

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio/Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio
is seeking a mission-minded Associate to join us as a full time (37.5 per week) Raíz Organizer.


SUMMARY

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio boasts a grassroots infrastructure across the state which works to defend and promote reproductive freedom. The Raíz program is Planned Parenthood’s national effort to work with the Latinx/e community on fights for reproductive health, sex education, and access to care. Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking a Raíz Organizer who will work with Public Affairs team and in close coordination with Planned Parenthood’s national organizing team to engage and grow a base of Latinx/e supporters and build power for the reproductive health movement in the Latinx/e community. The Raíz Organizer works directly with local and national Planned Parenthood teams to develop and execute campaign plans in Northeast Ohio. The Raíz Organizer will use a local campaign/initiative as a vehicle for deepening Latinx/e engagement at the local level in Northeast Ohio. The advocacy issues include family planning, contraceptive equity, and access to emergency contraceptives, comprehensive sex education and access to abortion.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Recruit patients advocates and volunteers to participate in the Patient Advocate Program and to share their reproductive health and education stories.
  • Recruit supporters, action fund members, online activists, and volunteers. Facilitate trainings for volunteers of PPAO or members of the general public who want to dedicate their time to advocacy.
  • This position includes time spent organizing and advocating on behalf of both PPGOH and PPAO in 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 capacities.
  • Craft and implement campaign plans with Director of Constituency Organizing and National Raíz Program & Latinx Campaigns team.
  • Tracks and records work across region using EveryAction/VAN database.
  • Organize and recruit volunteers for direct actions, lobby days, and electoral work to hold elected officials and decision makers accountable.
  • Build deep and intentional relationships with the Latinx/e community, organizations, and leaders who can support cross-collaboration efforts with Planned Parenthood.
  • Manages volunteer phone banking, canvassing and advocacy event recruitment.
  • In conjunction with education and development, builds upon existing relationships and creates new partnerships with allied organizations to strengthen PPGOH/PPAO visibility, credibility, and effectiveness in the community.
  • Practice debriefing each assignment to capture key lessons, build case studies, and create training content for Public Affairs and National Raíz Program
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
  • Manage logistics, planning, and implementation of efforts for local initiative/policy
  • Engage, educate, and mobilize Latinx/e communities on local initiatives and Planned Parenthood services
  • Coordinates with external affairs team to participate in community outreach events, health fairs, and speaking and education engagements.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Excellent project management skills. Ability to coordinate several simultaneous projects and events.

  • Strong commitment to meeting deadlines and showing progress towards goals
  • Ability to receive and integrate feedback into ongoing work plans, and the ability to provide relevant and timely feedback to peers in a constructive manner
  • Ability to work professionally in an often-tense environment.
  • High School diploma or equivalent, bachelors preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years in organizing, non-profits, or campaigns is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to move people to action.
  • Workshop facilitation experience
  • Successful experience recruiting new members to an organization
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn VAN, Excel, a computer language, or other tool for data management
  • Strong computer skills, including database and internet proficiency.
  • Ability to use personal stories to explain why you organize
  • Curiosity around new ways of organizing, using data, and building infrastructure for a long-term movement
  • Deep experience living or working in Latinx/e or immigrant communities in the US required
  • Strong, detail-oriented communicator who takes initiative
  • Ability to communicate professionally with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sensitivity in dealing with clients’ sexuality and reproductive healthcare choices.
  • At least 1-2 years as a volunteer or staff doing field organizing in the local community preferred
  • Interest in reproductive health care, bodily autonomy, and human rights issues. Commitment to reproductive freedom and to the goals of PPGOH and PPAO.
  • Strong writing skills, able to write concisely, clearly and quickly
  • Commitment to PPGOH’s mission, goal and objectives.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises volunteers, interns, and fellows in a multi-county region.
