Job Description

Do you want to make a difference in the community through leading immigrant justice efforts? COPAL is hiring an Immigration Campaign Organizer at our Mankato location to lead our on-site regional campaign which includes building relationships with affected community members and creating lasting change at the local and state levels. The organizer will work directly with Mankato-area public and private institutions while connecting with larger statewide campaign efforts.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Co-facilitate grassroots leadership trainings resulting in the formation of ten area leaders.
  • Participate in fundraising as appropriate to the role, including site visits with funders and phone banking to members/donors.
  • Facilitate and support the agenda of the Immigration Campaign Coordinating Committee as necessary.
  • Build relationships with impacted community members to construct a local campaign committee with presence in three target cities.
  • Coordinate with other organizing staff to achieve department-wide goals, including membership goals.
  • Organize community listening sessions and other public actions to advance campaign goals.
  • Educate and invoke change for public and private institutions in three target cities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bilingual in both the Spanish and English languages is preferred.
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred.
  • Experience in community organizing and campaign strategy is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Adept at problem solving and conflict management.
  • Strong analytical and time management skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to sites within a 40+ mile radius of the office and to work weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grassroots organizing at the local and statewide levels.
  • Has a clear understanding of issues impacting Minnesota’s Latinx community.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state and working remotely).
