Job Description

UPMC Altoona is currently hiring a full time Quality Nurse Coordinator to support the Quality Improvement department!

Purpose:
Support multidisciplinary quality improvement functions organizationally to achieve the highest quality and best possible outcomes for the patient and to support the various hospital functions related to development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates expertise in PI/CQI and with methods such as lean, Toyota and or six sigma
  • Demonstrates innovation and leads change through process flow/analysis
  • Identifies, educates and supports the psychological and learning needs of staff during change and transition.
  • Seeks opportunities to share expertise with other members of the healthcare team
  • Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process.
  • Applies best practice knowledge to improvement efforts
  • Demonstrates accountability to self and others for safe work hours, time management and healthy lifestyles.
  • Demonstrates interest in the development of others and positively impacts the lives of patients/families, peers, and members of the healthcare team through mentoring, education, and knowledge sharing.
  • Interacts with variety of staff
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in the analysis of clinical, social, safety, psychological and spiritual issues for the patient care.
  • Utilizes appropriate computer systems to obtain data, enter and develop reporting tools
  • Practices solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Practices participatory leadership and is an active member of shared leadership at the unit, facility or system level.
  • Coaches colleagues on cultural diversity and addresses workplace horizontal violence and impairment.
  • Partners with hospital leaders to implement change
  • Demonstrates project management skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to identify opportunities for success with regulatory requirements
  • Participates with the peer review process.
  • Exhibits knowledge of the fiscal implications of quality outcomes Improves processes
  • Mentors and role models quest for continuous learning through formal education and the development of others.
  • Interprets and analyzes data and identifies areas for improvement Leads core measure and other processes teams Uses measurement and analytics skills to identify areas for improvement
  • Disseminates new knowledge and innovations through presentations, posters, and publications.
  • Reviews and extracts patient information from the medical record
  • Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system's goals to improve patient safety, quality and satisfaction of the patient experience in work.
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication.

  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • BS/BSN degree required at time of hire/transfer, Master's degree preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others.
  • Minimum 5 years of nursing experience required
  • Must be able to demonstrate skills to understand and interpret data
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting.
  • Exemplary critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.
  • Act 34
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
