Job Description
Overview:

Works under the direct supervision of Quality Lab Supervisor or designee. Performs testing and inspection in the Quality Laboratory, metrology, receiving inspections and auditing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepares chemical solutions and media as directed.
  • Reviews purchase orders for material purchased by the company. Verifies the purchase orders and the raw materials received are the same as the specifications.
  • Maintains a high degree of cooperation with supervision and other employees.
  • Maintains records, reports and other related data in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Supports gage calibration and metrology services; assists in the review of gauging and applications to ensure efficient and accurate measuring equipment is used.
  • Maintains highest standards of quality and quantity
  • Performs the quality processes required to ensure quality processes are performed and quality parts are produced. This includes the material testing processes.
  • Issues acceptance and rejection reports based on test results.
  • Reviews the MRDR for TATS material for testing requirements.
  • Sets up, operates, and maintains laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Participates in Kaizen events.
  • Reviews specification changes and makes appropriate changes in the company systems.
  • Maintains awareness of production schedules.
  • Orders, stocks and distributes supplies.
  • Maintains working knowledge of company, customer and industry specifications and quality standards.
  • Performs material inspection, including destructive and non-destructive testing principles according to approved specifications and customer standards.
  • May compile data on scientific/laboratory procedures under direction of Quality Lab Supervisor or designee.
  • Maintains work area and cleanliness to laboratory standards.
  • Records and prepares incoming component samples for testing according to approved specifications. Performs appropriate tests on sample; production samples; hardness/conductivity, tensile and others as required.
  • Performs accurate testing to qualify and requalify incoming material.
  • Reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
  • Writes test plans.
  • Performs basic scientific, metrological laboratory procedures to Quality Standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate well with others. Must have advanced communication skills to communicate effectively with employees and customers.
  • Read and write well enough to understand planning, reports, and to record required information into company systems. Ability to perform technical writing.
  • Ability to use a PC to record required information and prepare required reports using Microsoft Office software and company systems. Ability to train other employees on the use of the company systems.
  • Material testing knowledge and skill is needed.
  • Knowledge of basic statistical concepts.
  • Ability to use and apply metrology principles and interpret specifications.
  • Ability to perform basic and more complex bench work.
  • Possess inspection and quality skills with knowledge of quality control principles and standards.
  • Ability to read shop drawings.
  • Must pass the vision exam at the acceptable level to perform inspection work.
  • Ability to use and understand simple and more complex/advanced measuring tools (i.e. calipers, micrometers, etc.).
  • Skills in Kaizen are highly preferred.
  • Ability to receive instructions and retain the required information.
  • Perform technical mathematics. Ability to perform geometric tolerancing and dimensioning.
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and/or skill in Six Sigma and Lean principles are preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Some college is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team/collaborative environment.
  • Effective oral/written communication skills.
  • Three years experience in quality and/or composite manufacturing is preferred and/or a 2-year technical college education.
