Responsible to the Senior Quality Assurance (QA) Manager, the QA Supervisor assists with developing, implementing, and managing QA programs and activities to ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, government regulations, and industry best practices including GMP, HACCP, and FSMA. Provides leadership for continuous product and process improvement initiatives.
Ensures products produced are safe, consistent, and of high quality. The QA Supervisor ensures this happens by testing and sampling products in a timely, accurate manner, making sure all products conform to standards, are labeled properly, and are properly functioning. This position requires excellent knowledge of the product, as well as strong communication skills to make sure that all employees are fully aware of required procedures and operations.
Oversees QA staff to ensure they provide timely, useful data on operations. Responsible for inspecting incoming raw ingredients/packaging and finished product intended for distribution. Conducts in-house audits and investigates non-conformances, conducts root cause analysis, and implements corrective action. Additionally, this position oversees proper process and product documentation, labeling, and food safe procedures in distribution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support the company Recall and Food Defense Program. Conducts mock recalls/traceability exercises as requested.
  • Assist in executing Vendor Qualification Program to ensure suppliers and raw materials are in compliance with internal specifications.
  • Assist in conducting plants audits to ensure and verify regulatory and customer compliance (HI- DOH, FDA, 3Rd Party Audits (GFSI), Customer Audits).
  • Ensure adherence to inspection requirements and customer specifications.
  • Trends Food Safety and Quality Objectives, KPI’s, and prepares Monthly Report.
  • Maintain FSQ Program & Manual within the plant in accordance with Company policies and procedures. Assist to create and revise HACCP Plans, SOP, SSOP and other policies.
  • Applies administrative and record-keeping processes to support the programs listed above. • Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes with an annual goal of 0% incidents.
  • Manages HACCP assessments and reassessments. Composes and edits HACCP plans and strategies for new products. Manage HACCP records and file maintenance.
  • Assists in reviewing supplier approval documentation. Oversees audits of local and domestic suppliers, as necessary.
  • Assist QA Manager in managing ‘QA Hold’ Program. Assist in identifying and resolving quality issues involving products and raw materials that are out of specifications.
  • Execute food safety and quality inspection schedules on a daily, weekly, and structural basis.
  • Ensures compliance with all food safety and quality programs, including GMP, HACCP, FSMA and all other prerequisite programs.
  • Implement and maintain FSQ program, including but not limited to: FSMA, SOP, HACCP, SSOP & GMP. Work with QA & production team to ensure process & program understanding & compliance.
  • Execution and Implementation (50%)
  • Maintains proper documentation from all suppliers to ensure compliance with the company supplier approval program (Letters of Guarantee, MSDS sheets – where appropriate, Inspection Approvals, etc.).
  • Establishes manufacturing specifications, standards, protocols and procedures for quality control and new product development.
  • Develops and manages programs to track, document and respond to customer complaints, potential food borne illnesses, including the development of crisis plans, and the communication of these responses and plans to upper management.
  • Audit and evaluate inspection results.
  • Commitment to plant safety procedures.
  • Individual Contribution (30%)
  • Assist in identifying and resolving non-conformances & customer complaints. Conduct root cause analysis to determine proper counter measures. Implements corrective actions.
  • Maintains current technical library for all Policies, Programs and Procedures, including GMPs, SOPs and SSOPs.
  • Assists in preparing audit responses and feedback for all third party and regulatory audits.
  • Evaluates and assists in developing processes, specifications, and Preventive Controls in manufacturing, for ongoing quality assurance of all finished goods.
  • Verify daily pre-ops compliance. Assist in QA/Production training. Verify proficiency testing and performs on-the-job compliance verification.
  • Develops and executes training programs that support the Company’s objectives as it relates to quality, food safety, and food defense.
  • Leadership, Coaching and Development (20%)
  • Develop and possess effective leadership qualities to lead, guide, and manage a team of diverse individuals. • Identify developmental opportunities for each team member; assist with preparing individual development plans, with timelines and regular meeting schedules.
  • Supervise and monitor inspection activities, staff and give technical direction when needed. Oversees technicians who perform assessments throughout a product's many stages of development.
  • Participates and leads the product and process continuous improvement team.
  • Oversees the janitorial and sanitation operations for the facility.
  • Responsible for assisting in hiring, leading, and motivating teams to achieve goals, and meet customers’ expectations.
  • Verify and reviews QA and production records. Ensures timely completion and proper filing.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all duties and maintains all standards in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Regular attendance is required for the position.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 2 years in Quality Assurance supervisory experience in food manufacturing.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Able to conduct clear, concise, and convincing business presentations.
  • Proficient in computer systems and applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or related food technology field.
  • Ability to summarize, interpret test data and make recommendations.
  • Ability to perform college level mathematical and statistical calculations.
