Job Description

TITLE:

Quality Assurance Nurse (Registered Nurse)

DEPARTMENT:

Provider Relations Department

HOURS:

40 hours per week, flexible. Must be able to work flexible and/or additional hours as mandated by Board operational needs. Hybrid Work Environment.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for ensuring proper medication administration practices and procedures are followed through the completion of the Quality Assurance Registered Nurse Reviews. Provide training and technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders relative to medical issues, proper medication administration and other health related activities. Must strive to meet the Agency mission and exemplify the Agency’s core values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:

1. Responsible for consultation and quality assessment oversight for Medication Administration for private providers caring for individuals with specific medical needs.

2. Schedule and complete Quality Assurance Registered Nurse Assessments reviews (QARN) in accordance with O.A.C. 5123:2-6-07, ensuring proper medication administration practices and health related activities are being implemented in compliance with rules.

3. Identify deficiencies in medication administration as part of the QARN review process and work with providers to develop and implement a plan of correction.

4. Maintain accurate documentation regarding the completion of all Quality Assurance Registered Nurse Assessments.

5. Provide training and technical assistance to ISP Teams and internal and external stakeholders in the area of medication administration, nurse delegation/certification and other health related issues and activities to support a quality service delivery system.

6. Identify and provide recommendations regarding service needs within the area of the provision of health services to individuals with developmental disabilities to promote positive outcomes

7. Assure effective and respectful relations with all agency personnel and community partners.

8. Keeps informed as to all standards, rules, regulations and laws that impact medication administration, the performance of health related activities and the oversight of delegated nursing staff. Represent departments and/or agency in federal and/or state audits and surveys.

9. Schedule ongoing, simultaneous and completing assignments that have fluid and overlapping completion dates. Participation in ongoing projects that support quality of life and promote agency compliance with federal, state and local standards.

10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education: High School Diploma. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred. Current Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Ohio.

Experience: Two (2) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse; one (1) years’ experience providing services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Knowledge of rules governing medication administration to individuals with developmental disabilities and nursing delegation preferred.

Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database programs. Use mathematics to solve problems. Obtain and use equipment, facilities, and materials required to perform work. Operate job related equipment including the use of basic computer programs and systems. Do data entry, generate reports, copy, manage and track documents and information.

Certifications: Must obtain the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) RN trainer certification within six months of hire. Must obtain DODD RN instructor certification when eligible. Once certification is obtained, it must be maintained.

Driver License: Valid Ohio Driver License with insurance.

First Aid/CPR Required?: Yes

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND OTHER EXPECTATIONS

Knowledge: Knowledge of skilled registered nursing procedures; state & federal regulations, and policies and procedures related to nursing for individuals with developmental disabilities, including, but not limited to, medication administration, nurse delegation, and other health related information.

Abilities: Effectively, professionally and accurately complete assessments and identify areas for improvement as needed. Monitor and review plans of corrections, providing technical assistance when appropriate. Ability to train multiple stakeholder groups in best practices around medication administration, nursing delegation and other health related activities and topics. Effectively manage time to meet operational needs and organizational outcomes. Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with the provider community and other outside stakeholders. Analyze situations accurately, utilizing a variety of analytical techniques in order to make well informed decisions. Read and comprehend job-related materials and documents. Effectively recognize and resolve conflicts and mediate disputes. Stay current with existing laws and regulations around medication administration, nursing delegation and other health related topics and potential changes that would impact current operations.

Other Expectations: Report unusual incidents and major unusual incidents. Completes all required training and maintains strict confidentiality. Regular attendance is mandatory. Maintain related records in accordance with appropriate records retention guidelines and policies. Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures. Must have reliable transportation to fulfill responsibilities requiring travel in the community. Must be available by personal cell phone during working hours.

HYBRID WORK ENVIRONMENT - OUTDOOR / COMMUNITY

This is a community-based role. Work is normally performed primarily in the community. The employee may be subject to extreme and adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to blood-borne pathogens, communicable diseases, potentially infectious materials and/or aggressive behavior. May be required to travel. May be exposed to fumes/odors; work with lubricants, chemicals, and cleaning solvents.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.92 - $28.24 per hour
