Position Overview
The Department of Human Services is seeking to hire an independent, highly organized, and detail-oriented licensed Registered Nurse for the Illinois School for the Deaf located in Jacksonville, Illinois. This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care for students with an identified hearing impairment. Manual communication is highly recommended. The successful candidate shall demonstrate a valid Illinois License and good oral and written communication skills, highly motivated, and be able to carry out nursing assignments under the direction of the Director of Health Services.
Job Responsibilities
1. Functions as an interdisciplinary team member while providing the highest standard of care to students.
2. Serves as designated lead worker to lower-level staff.
3. Utilizes the core elements of the nursing process while assessing students with acute and chronic conditions.
4. Completes mandatory training requirements and meets Registered Nursing continuing education hours to maintain licensure.
5. Assists Physician Specialist and other health care providers in caring for the student, always giving a complete and thorough report on student status at the end of shift/assignment.
6. Maintains and updates health records relative to the students and employees at ISD.
7. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience OR a bachelor's degree in nursing and one (1) year of professional nursing experience OR a master's degree in nursing.
2. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires the ability to pass the sign language proficiency interview (SLPI) at the Intermediate level within 18 months of hiring.
2. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
