Python Developer - Early Career

Business Services provides high-quality business services to support the Lab's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management, which is a critical component to the Lab's success. Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Brookhaven’s Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Information Technology Division, and Procurement & Property Management Division. The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab’s fiscal matters and its approximately $750 million annual budget.

The Information Technology Division (ITD) provides expertise in computing hardware and software support, as well as telecommunications services for the entire Laboratory. ITD investigates, recommends, and automates process improvements to business systems within the Lab community. ITD oversees library, publications and records management.

The ITD Department at BNL is looking for an early career developer with experience in Python scripting. At first the position will be involved in supporting the Quality Management Office (QMO) in the Integrated Operational Performance System (IOPS) implementation and production phases of the EtQ Reliance product. The candidate will then, through education and mentoring, move on to additional projects that involve .NET and other technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Aid on other projects after training with other technologies.
• Maintain and develop existent application using Python knowledge.
• Build skills and proficiencies with technologies as required
• Handle client requests and manage relationships.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Independent problem solving and analytical abilities
• 0-1 years of relevant experience.
• Intermediate Python scripting experience
• BA/BS Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Computer Science
• Facility with front-end Web technologies, HTML, and CSS
• Customer management skills including strong written and verbal communication
• Familiarity with database fundamentals

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience with .NET and ASP.NET
• EtQ Reliance experience
• SQL scripting in SQL Server or Oracle
• Some knowledge of object-oriented programming
• Familiarity with SharePoint and Office 365

Other Information:

• There is a possibility of remote employment in this role. If fully remote, then minimal travel to the Lab may be required.
