ABOUT THE COURT
Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest unified trial court in the United States. Its 580 judges and commissioners work in one of the 40 facilities within the Court's 12 judicial districts and are supported by more than 4,500 full-time Court employees. The Court has an annual budget of more than $1 billion. Located in Southern California, Los Angeles County is geographically one of the nation's largest counties, covering 4,084 square miles and, with over 10,400,000 residents, is also one of its most populous counties.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Reporting to the Director of Public Safety, the Public Safety Administrator serves as the point of contact and project manager for safety, security, and threat assessment and management-related matters, including safety and security systems, policies, and procedures. The Public Safety Administrator may supervise assigned staff in the Office of Public Safety and serves as a liaison between the Court and all law enforcement agencies and other first responders for planning, response, and after-action administrative activities related to security incidents.

This is an at-will managerial position. The Trial Court Employment Protection and Governance Act (SB 2140) authorizes the Court to exclude managerial employees from the employment protection provisions of the Act subject to meet and confer.

TELEWORK OPPORTUNITIES

This position is eligible for occasional telework following an initial training period.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify, you must meet the following minimum requirements at the time of filing:

Education
:
A Bachelor’s degree in Administration of Justice, Public Administration, or a related field.

Experience :
Four (4) years of highly responsible experience in either law enforcement management, as a member of the United States Armed Forces with protective detail and/or security experience, or the equivalent supervisorial experience at a federal or state court.

Note:
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following desirable qualifications:
  • Experience with Court Security protocols, equipment and technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Formal training or education in the area of modern threat assessment and management practices related to public officials.
  • Demonstrated experience with threat assessment and management
  • Demonstrated experience handling difficult and/or delicate situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated experience with emergency management
