Job Duties

Manages a district nursing program or, in larger districts, manages part of the comprehensive nursing program typically through formal supervision of Nurse Supervisors. Characteristic responsibilities include developing and monitoring the budget, recruiting staff, procuring and administering grants, community needs assessment, resource allocation, quality assurance of service delivery, and serving as district management team member. Occasionally performs direct nursing service by providing professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools, performs nursing assessments lab tests, takes measurements, and develops and implements care plans, including the administration of medication and case management. Requires licensure as a RN by state code.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Extensive knowledge of nursing management, public health nursing, and practices of public
  • Requires licensure as a RN in Virginia
health.
  • Proven ability to provide effective leadership and operations management; ability to direct
subordinate nurse managers and supervisors in achieving agency objectives.
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communication, community assessment, planning, and staff
development.
  • Ability to collaboratively lead staff, synthesize and interpret data, and communicate effectively
with staff, patients, and the public; ability to monitor and evaluate quality assurance of nursing
programs; ability to present results and nursing outcomes to internal and external
constituencies.

Additional Considerations

  • Nursing and senior-level administrative experience in public health, as well as experience with the Incident Command System (ICS), preferred.
  • Master’s in Nursing or Management and/or B.S. in Nursing is preferred.
