Project Mentor Jobs

The Collab Lab helps people from underrepresented groups find their first jobs in tech by teaching them how professional software teams work together.

We are based in the U.S., but are looking for volunteer web developers and engineering managers who can help guide project teams across UTC-10 to UTC+6.

In this role, you wear 2 hats: senior developer & product owner. Over the course of a typical week, you will answer questions from the Developers on your project team to help unblock them as they work to solve the task at hand. Towards the end of the week you'll provide code reviews that, in part, help ensure that what they’re building meets the functional requirements for that week’s issues. At the weekend, you’ll help lead a 1-hour synchronous call where the team demos their work and gets ready for the coming week.

Our stack is React.js + Firebase, but we have had successful mentors who learned alongside their teams. The biggest qualification you should have is that you want to encourage and help other developers break into tech.

In addition to feeling part of a community, Collab Lab mentors have reported that the experience they gained through volunteering with us set them up for promotions in their current jobs.
