Job Summary


The Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS) encourages applications for a Program Manager! This position manages financial, HR, administrative, research support and technical support functions for a Center within IBS, including accounting, producing and maintaining financial reports influencing Institute-wide business decisions, providing oversight and maintenance of changes to Center staffing and funding, creating advisory reports, providing communications relating to the accurate assessment and sound maintenance of the Institute's financial databases and processes, supporting research activities, and participating and coordinating the submission of externally funded grant proposals.

Who We Are


The Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS) is a research institute within the Graduate School of the University of Colorado Boulder. Since its establishment in 1957, it has provided a setting for interdisciplinary collaborative research on problems of societal concern. By engaging faculty from all the social and behavioral sciences at the University of Colorado, Boulder, IBS encourages work that goes beyond disciplinary boundaries, illuminates the complexity of social behavior and social life, and that has important implications for social policy.


IBS is organized into five research programs, each defined by an interdisciplinary area of research and directed by a senior research scientist. Three programs have centers that specialize in research topics consistent with the broader goals of the Program. Computing and Research Services provides computing and information technology services for IBS research activities.


What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


  • Organize and maintain all project-related materials, including those related to critical and confidential project processes including human subjects-related events from submission of protocol requests to providing ongoing oversight and advice on the appropriate response to protocol requirements. Create and recommend process improvements to ensure compliance with all foreign, US Federal, state and local regulations and policies governing the management of grant-related activities.
  • Manage program administration, directing approximately 15 Center personnel (Faculty, Research Faculty, Fellows and Graduate Students) in the appropriate execution of requisite administrative functions. Advise personnel in HR, Marketplace and Concur support functions including the provision of support for all individual and group travel, as well as management and supervision of workshop and conference implementation for groups as large as 30.
  • Support the Center's research mission by assisting with outreach, attending committee meetings, and assisting with the coordination of working groups and speaking/instruction series events.
  • Develop and prepare budgets for Center accounts and implement budget plans for general fund, auxiliary and research accounts by implementing and signing all account paperwork, arranging for payment and reimbursement, and reconciling statements. Analyze financial data and build accurate reports.
  • Support the Administrative Officer as well as Principal Investigators and Fellows in all aspects of the pre-award submission process. Support post-award management of grants for research personnel. This includes review and analysis of budget detail in the proposal state of project submission, as well as analysis and reporting on budget expenditures in the post-award phase of grants management under standard Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) procedures.

  • This position offers a hybrid work modality with a minimum of 2 days on-site and 3 days of remote work per week.


What We Can Offer


The hiring range is $53,000-$65,000 annually.

What We Require


  • One year of relevant professional experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and/or relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirements.

What We Would Like You To Have


  • Experience with financial coordination or administration of sponsored project operations.
  • Experience with HR/Financial systems such as PeopleSoft, Cognos, and Concur.
